The esteemed sport of golf can be fun when played for leisure. But on the circuit of professional tournaments, it can be quite stressful. It is pivotal to maintain good humor and light-heartedness amid the critical shots on the course.

Such a moment presented itself during the ongoing 2023 US Open at the Los Angeles Country Club. Thanks to Si Woo Kim’s sense of humor and quick wit, what could have been a hazardous incident, ended up in giggles!

During the gameplay on Saturday, at the 14th fairway, Keith Mitchell took an amazing shot. However, the golf course being closely situated amid an urban setting, hinders the pace of gameplay considerably. As a result, Keith’s ball went flying and hit Si-Woo Kim on the arm while he stood near the 15th box.

The audience was flabbergasted when Kim held his arm and toppled to the ground in seeming agony. Mitchell undoubtedly felt guilty and it would have added to his stress if, a second later, Si-Woo Kim didn’t jump up on his feet.

Turns out Si-Woo Kim was just being hilarious to cut the tension on the court. He laughed as he stood up, earning a sigh of relief from the crowd. Mitchell rushed over to Kim and hugged him and the two golfers shared a chuckle.

“Si Woo Kim has jokes,” posted Golf Digest on their Twitter feed.

In posterity, the reaction from Keith and the audience was completely justified. A hit to his shoulder or arm could have hampered Kim’s performance. Thankfully, that was not the case. It was just a joke that Si-Woo Kim pulled off perfectly with his innate acting skills.

This is not the first accidental shot at the US Open

The limited space at the Los Angeles Country Club has caused similar incidents with other players as well. Cameron Young took an unbelievable shot off the tee that landed in the cup holder of a golf cart. GolfonCBS shared the incident on Instagram stating, “What are the odds?”

It sure is a question that deserves pondering. Usually, taking a tee shot that lands in a hole is rare, to begin with. But when the golfer aims at something else and the golf ball makes its way into a cup holder of a stable golf cart are unfathomable odds.

The whole event of the US Open may have caused some stress for the professional players, especially if Jon Rahm‘s need to vent is any indication. But the event also brought many laughs from the audience and the golfing community alike. From Adam Hadwin’s hilarious incident to retrieve his golf club from the bushes to Cameron Young’s cup-holder shot, and Keith Mitchell almost hurting Si-Woo Kim, it has been a series of tittering cackles among the crowd. It’s even better when the golfers join in the fun to keep the mood light and play the game for the spirit of the event.
