The golf world is full of many debates. But perhaps the longest-running of them that has left the fans divided for a long time is who is the greatest player, Tiger Woods or Phil Mickelson. Over the years this has left the fans fighting among themselves over their favorite players.
And though these golfers themselves have never said anything about this comparison their respective leagues know how to use the situation to their advantage. LIV Golf is quite active on Twitter and their latest tweet has sparked a fiery debate amongst fans who are choosing between Woods and Mickelson

Mickelson and Woods no longer see eye to eye. There was a time when those two played side by side but over the year the differences divided them more and more. And things have changed so much now. Currently, Woods has assumed the prestigious role of a board director on the PGA Tour while Mickelson is facing gambling allegations of millions of dollars. With their latest situation and their representation of different tours who are sworn enemies of each other, fans are more polarized than ever.

And LIV Golf has used this opportunity to ignite the fierce debate on the internet once again. LIV Nation has tweeted “I’ll concede that Tiger Woods is the greatest golfer of his generation. However, Phil Mickelson has without a doubt proven that he is the most impactful golfer.” And this has left fans once again lending their support to the player they think is the best in the comments.
This fan support both in their own right.
Phil himself said that no one has made him more money than Tiger. He is single handedly the most impactful golfer ever. LIV wouldn’t exist without Tiger in the sense that no one would want to invest that much money into a golf league if not for the Tiger effect many years ago

But this fan isn’t very sure of Phil’s impact.
Phil has only impacted anyone that wants to improve their wedge play. Other than that, he's just another 'better than alot of' tour player.

This fan disagrees with LIV’s statement.
Arnold Palmer, Ben Hogan, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods have been far more impactful. Phil isn’t anywhere close

This fan took a neutral stance.
Both are still viable as they age.
People like one, the other or both.

This fan wrote
LIV owes more to Tiger Woods for its existence than it does the PIF.

This fan blamed Phil for PGAT’s destruction.
True. No one other than Phil has had more impact on the possible destruction of the PGAT. But in the process he’s destroyed his legacy in the minds of most American fans, especially after Walters revealed his attempt to bet on a RC he was playing in.

This fan sided with Tiger.
Rubbish. Tiger is the most impactful and it’s not even close
— BigNoseStu (@BigNoseStu) August 12, 2023
This fan roasted Mickelson.
Not one single kid growing up wanted to persue golf because of Phil hahaha

Though fans are in support of Mickelson as well, they are also angry at him for tearing apart the PGA Tour with his move to LIV Golf.

Previous face off of Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson
Though Woods and Mickelson don’t compete against each other anymore, a decade ago fans witnessed their multiple face-offs. They went against each other at the 2001 Masters where Woods won. Then they were paired at the 2004 Ryder Cup for two matches which they lost. They were against each other on many occasions after that like Ford Championship, Deutsche Band Championship, and others. Their last faceoff happened in 2018 at ‘The Match’ where Mickelson won over Woods.
Both the players have sufficient reasons to claim the title of being the greatest. Woods is only leading at one place with 15 majors under his belt while Mickelson has 6 majors which is the second most for anyone. The question of who is the best or most impactful might be up for debate but what is not up for debate is that both players have made incredible contributions to the sport.
