The merger raised hopes of many golfers on the Saudi circuit as they saw a chance to play for their country at the upcoming Ryder Cup. The automatic qualification clause saw PGA Tour pros taking the six spots in the American team. Skipper Zach Johnson will pick other six players, including those from the Saudi league. But all hopes were dashed for the European players, as they were exiled from taking part in the prestigious tournament due to their resignation from the DP world tour. And Rory McIlroy couldn’t care less.

In a recent press conference, the golfer was asked whether he had a problem with the fact that the Zach Johnson-led US team could select golfers from the PIF-funded league while Europe could not. McIlroy was quick to reply to the question. “No. I don’t think it would make a difference for us,” he said, taking a jab at the LIV golfers.

The 34-year-old golfer, on one hand, expressed his confidence with the statement. On the other, he portrayed his lack of concern about the defectors being able to play in the prestigious tournament. One can’t help but notice how McIlroy has his savage side out when it comes to the LIV Pros. He had even taken a jab at Phil Mickelson, not too long ago because of his gambling allegations.

As the hype around the Ryder Cup builds, many people have expressed their displeasure with the PIF-funded league. And also the eligibility of players to the Ryder Cup who defected to the same. Not long ago, a legend from the European team had expressed his opinion on the same as he talked about the various LIV players.
