Morikawa and Hovland knew each other during their college years. Gradually, they got to know more about each other, thanks to their caddies.

The shared bond between the two caddies was so strong that they even lived together. This led to both the golfers eventually bonding to the extent that they had dinner together. They even considered a possible pairing in the future.

Elaborating on this, Morikawa said: “And I’d say we’re fairly good friends now.”

He went on further to acknowledge that he also circled Viktor Hovland before his win on the DP World Tour at Dubai during a playoff.

Viktor Hovland exhibits hesitation and humor

In a pivotal moment, Morikawa confronted Hovland about their potential collaboration. This prompted Viktor Hovland to contemplate the offer more seriously. But during the discussion, he couldn’t help but bring out his humorous side to the forefront.
