Sergio Garcia got himself involved in a Ryder Cup controversy a few days ago. The Spaniard’s last-ditch efforts to convince the DP World Tour to give him a last chance were in vain. Sergio tried to pay a £700,000 fine to get an exemption from the Ryder Cup squad. But to his dismay, the tour turned down his efforts bluntly. Now, days after that, Garcia and his other LIV compatriots are on their next venture to get a final verdict on a crucial matter. Lately, the update cleared the doubts on whether things are drawing a close.

Sergio Garcia and other LIV defectors signed an open letter last September imploring the OWGR to include the league in the points system. Now, Peter Dawson, the chairman of the OWGR board, has recently said that consideration for the ranking points of LIV is underway and just needs some more speculation.
According to bunkered.co.uk, Dawson said, “We’re coming close to a conclusion on it, and that’s all I can say.” Thus giving hope to the LIV golfers that an outcome is soon to be finalized. Moreover, LIV’s battle to gain legitimacy on the men’s golf circuit can finally find contention if the plea is approved. Only time will tell what the final verdict is.
As of now, huge frustration lingers about the entire set-up. OWGR also stressed the fact that any application from a tour takes a significant amount of time to act on it. Sometimes even a year.
Dawson also said that since LIV’s qualifying format is different the process might take more time. “We’ve had a lot of work to do with the rankings because the LIV format and some of the qualification criteria are very different to other tours that are part of the ranking”. Apart from this, another major speculation came to light whether Sergio Garcia would ever again make a comeback at the Ryder Cup.

But the 10-time Ryder cupper was not given a chance for the 2023 Ryder Cup.
