Ex-POTUS Donald Trump, harbors a love for golf unlike any other. A long devotee of this sport, Trump has had a major association with golf and its players for a long time now. He has also long cherished the dream of hosting major tournaments on his grounds, and has thus made various attempts for it as well.

The Trump National Golf Club has multiple branches in many states of America and it is Donald Trump’s biggest desire to host a major PGA Tour tournament in one of them.
But according to Golf Week, this seems like a faraway dream for the former president of the United States. Recently, Trump almost saw this dream come to life when his Turnberry Golf Course in Scotland was chosen as the host for the upcoming Open Championship in July. Trump was ecstatic as he made the bold claim that “everybody wants to see the Open Championship here”. But this statement proved to be regretful when fate made its strike. The R&A (the ruling body of golf) banned the course from ever hosting the British Open as long as it was owned by Trump.
His association with the golf course projected a security threat that the R&A was not ready to risk. This was a major disappointment for Trump as he had spent a significant amount of money on the course’s redevelopment on the advice of R&A’s former chief executive, Peter Dawson. Now the new location of the event is Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Merseyside, England. This is the second time that Royal Liverpool will be hosting the British Open. It was also held once before in 2014.

Before that, in 2022 Trump again suffered a fatal loss of this precious dream. The 2022 PGA Championship was all set to be hosted at the Trump National Golf Club, Bedminster, New Jersey. But the PGA of America denied to hold the event there after Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol.
Whether people like it or not, there is a very high possibility that the PGA Tour and LIV Golf represent a united front in the future and given the security risks that come from association with Trump, the PGA and R&A may not take any chances.

At the moment Trump has other important issues on his hands to look after as he will be appearing in court in Miami. But as long as his courses remain blacklisted, hosting a major golf tournament will be an incomplete dream for the ex-POTUS.
