PGA Tour star Jon Rahm is currently playing the 2023 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club in Surrey with the prize purse of $9,000,000. Rahm’s history at Wentworth is limited to just two appearances, yet he secured runner-up positions in both 2019 and 2022. In 2022, he notably stormed the leaderboard with a 62-round finish, narrowly trailing Shane Lowry by a single stroke.

After the second round of the 2023 BMW PGA Championship, in an interview, Rahm opened up about his game in the BMW PGA Championship and his strategies for the upcoming Ryder Cup starting from 29th September at the Simone Golf and Country Club, Italy.

On the first day of the Championship on Thursday, Rahm carded a 1-under 71, with his round featuring three birdies offset by two bogeys. The Spaniard faced a challenging beginning on Friday during the second round. A double bogey on the par-4 set the tone, owing to an unplayable situation in the right fairway bunker. This was reminiscent of Viktor Hovland‘s predicament on the 16th hole of Oak Hill during the 2023 PGA Championship.

For the second round, he was grouped with Nicolai Hojgaard and Tyrrell Hatton. Just two holes later, another bogey saw Rahm sliding to a 3-over for the championship, and the prospects of making it to the weekend seemed bleak. However, displaying resilience, Rahm surged back impressively. He secured a commendable 5-under 67, positioning him at a comfortable 6-under par after 36 holes.

When asked during an interview after the second round about striking a balance, Jon Rahm responded, “It’s a bit of both. If it’s something you’ve been working on that you think can improve your game, you have a world-class stage to try it, right.”

He further continued, ” Some great athletes have always said if you can’t do it in the game, why even try it in the future. So it is a perfect way to try things. And if you’re successful with it, you can have that much more confidence going to the Ryder Cup. Again, it’s always going to be a good thing to have a when asked during an interview.”

Rahm’s chase at Wentworth

Victory at Wentworth could significantly enhance Jon Rahm’s position in the Race to Dubai, where he currently lags 2,400 points behind the leader, Rory McIlroy. Rahm believes the 2023 BMW PGA Championship offers an invaluable rehearsal before the subsequent event in Rome later this month
