The Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is the only DP World Tour event played on Scotland’s soil. The competition mixed with professional and amateur play goes on for 4-days at the Old Course, Carnoustie, and Kingsbarns golf courses.
This year, the event started as usual, but a storm hovering over the country disrupted the game and matches had to be abandoned. Amidst the adverse weather, Matt Fitzpatrick wishes to give his mother a special gift.

Matt Fitzpatrick has recently won the patriotic battle for his country at the Ryder Cup. Right after the heart-clinching event, he is gracing the golf course in Scotland with his brother Alex Fitzpatrick competing alongside.
The Alfred Dunhill Link Championship organizes two discrete events; individual matches and pro-am team events. Fitzpatrick is paired with his beloved mother for the team event. They stand at second, just one stroke away from taking the lead from Julien Guerrier and Stephane Connery.
The European is set to claim two titles to his name by the end of the tournament. In an exclusive conversation with Golf Digest, the 8-time DP World Tour winner showed utter gratitude to his mother. He said, “I think the thing about my mum is she was just always so supportive and she’d take me here, there, everywhere to go play a tournament or for a golf lesson. She sacrificed her own weekends and time to go and take me and my brother around when we needed to go for various things.”
Without calling it a present, Fitzpatrick expressed that winning the team event with her by his side would be a special moment. Matt said, “I think that’s such a … goes without saying, such a huge thing for her to do to give us that opportunity. I wouldn’t say this is like a repayment playing at Dunhill, but this certainly is a nice thing to be able to play with her.” Will the golfer succeed amidst heavy rain?

Fitzpatrick is leading by 13 under 131 and is followed by Grant Forrest and Nacho Elvira, only one stroke behind. They rescheduled the 3rd round of the event from Saturday to Sunday due to heavy rain. As Sunday came, the rain was worse than before. DP World Tour has made the official announcement on X (formerly Twitter) about the abandonment of matches.

The courses were filled with water and the round was once again pushed on Monday and considered as the final round. The format for both events was changed too, with team events only counting the top 30 and ties with 36-hole cuts. And the individual event was reduced to 54-holes.
