While she was at the prestigious University in California, LPGA Tour’s very own female Tiger Woods, earned numerous titles thanks to her competitive streak. However, Zhang isn’t the only one who liked to win at the amateur circuit. Another cardinal with just as much passion and competitiveness has long been turning heads in the amateur tournaments.
Rachel Heck is one of those names in the amateur circuits that you can’t help but know. She won 6 singles tournament titles in her freshman year and became a popular personality in the golfing cosmos. She also won the individual NCAA title and followed that with two wins in her sophomore year. A tragic need for surgery abruptly halted her progress in February, although she was away from the sport since October 2022 due to Mono.
But now, finally, the rising star from Tennessee is back and already preparing to claim more titles. While processing the stress of the final Major Championship at the AIG Women’s Open, Rose Zhang shared the story about her friend on her Instagram saying, “Ahhh, too excited for this comeback.”
She added a beautiful picture of her former Stanford buddy. The USGA also shared the comeback story on their Twitter (now X) account mentioning her leave of absence from golf. But the highlight is how the amateur golfer made her comeback just in time and is now only two rounds away from winning the title at the US Women’s Amateur tournament in Bel-Air.
Before this week, @rachelheck2020 had only played one competitive round since October.
Now she’s two matches away from winning the biggest title of her career! #USWomensAm

In the midst of her spectacular run playing for the NCAA, Heck fell into an unlucky trap. Sadly, she first fell victim to Mono soon after winning her two titles in her sophomore year. Rachel Heck had to take a little time off. But that wasn’t all.
When she was getting ready to pick up her golf clubs again, the Amateur golfer learned that she was suffering from Thoracic Outlet Syndrome and in need of surgery. She had to take an indefinite leave from playing Amateur golf, but that didn’t stop her from cheering for her peers.
Now that she’s making a comeback, her peers, including Rose Zhang, are thrilled to see what the amateur golfer will achieve next.
