Will Tiger Woods' return in October be the comeback story we've all been waiting for?

The wait for the Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s brainchild league, TGL, would finally be over in just two months! TGL was delayed after a dome mishap destroyed the Palm Beach Arena, but now the simulation league is turning up well and gearing up for the inauguration in January 2025. But before that, the TGL fans will be surprised by all the behind-the-scenes of how the team was made and its operations.

As previously revealed, TGL will have six different teams, one being Boston Common Golf featuring McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Keegan Bradley, and Adam Scott. Owned by the Fenway Sports Group, the team will soon be releasing a 5 part docu-series sponsored by Comcast Business, which also offers lucrative bonuses to the top ten golfers from the PGA Tour on its list. The series will be telecast on NESN, GolfPass, and Golf Channel somewhere around the middle of December as Josh Carpenter of Sports Journal Business reported.

Through the small snippet posted, McIlroy can be seen spearheading the team development while Tiger Woods also makes a cameo. Before the docu-series comes out will the 48-year-old grace any events on the PGA Tour’s Fall season? Unfortunately, no. Woods underwent microdecompression surgery in September for a pinched nerve in his back casing back spasms and has been recovering off the course. Hence, it would not be feasible for the 15-time major winner to tee up at any event at least in October.

Nonetheless, Woods would have been excited to see the growth in TGL as it got delayed by a year because of unprecedented circumstances. As TGL will start in January of next year, will that be the first time Woods will play in an event after the surgery or does he still have something on his 2024 season schedule?

Where might Tiger Woods play next?

Last December, Tiger Woods made his much-anticipated comeback and relayed before playing the Hero World Challenge that he was looking to play one event per month on the PGA Tour. However, his plans did not pan out as he expected. The 48-year-old was part of only five events in the 2024 season, out of which he played full four days only at the Masters, missing the cut at the other three majors and withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational because of influenza.

Have an interesting take?

Now with the microdecompression surgery, it may seem that Woods would not tee up again in 2024. However, the surgery has a recovery period of two to eight weeks. That means, Woods would be healthy enough till December and may play in two events that month. It has been a usual schedule, that the 82-time PGA Tour winner plays in the Hero World Challenge in Albany, Bahamas, which will be played between December 5 to 8th.

Then, Woods may tee up with his son, Charlie Woods, at the PNC Championship, which he has not missed since 2019. Played at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, the event will start on December 19th and conclude on 22nd. Before starting the 2025 season on a better foot, Woods may participate in these two events as he has always done and greet his fans with more of his gameplay.
