The golf world is currently on a chaotic ride. Anyone who has followed golf for last two years will be aware of what all has happened in such a short time. LIV Golf’s coming into existence marked the beginning of all chaos.

But in a strange twist of destiny, these leagues — PGA, LIV and DP World Tour — shocked everyone on June 6 by announcing a $3,000,000,000 merger. As the shock of the surprising agreement between the PGA Tour, DP World Tour and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund fades, the practical realities of the unification have taken hold of one’s attention. New updates are coming to light daily. And some of them are really shocking in nature. Like this one!

When Greg Norman-led LIV Golf came into existence, it gave the PGA Tour a serious headache since many of the best PGA Tour players began to move to LIV Golf largely on account of better money. This resulted in an agreement between the PGA Tour and PIF, the money behind LIV, that players would not be permitted to join other circuits going forward and that both parties would not engage in “poaching” of players. According to a Times article, the non-solicitation provision prohibited either of the two tours from “entering into any contract, agreement, or understanding with” any “players who are members of the other’s tour or organization”.

But now, in response to the US Justice Department’s inquiry into the merger, the crucial clause of ‘no poaching’ has been dropped. Golf Monthly shared the news on its Twitter account with the caption: ”A clause in the PGA Tour-PIF deal that prohibited poaching players from either the tour or LIV Golf has been removed after concerns it could break federal employment law.”

Now that the clause has been rid of, players will be able to participate on the circuit of their choice. Does this also open the door for Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s inclusion in LIV Golf? So far they have been loyal to the PGA Tour, it may be noted.

The idea of including Woods and McIlroy in LIV Golf

Plans to give Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy their own LIV teams were considered during the preliminary talks, it has emerged. Another thing that was put forward was that both players would play at least in 10 LIV Golf events.

We all know how McIlroy and Woods feel about LIV golf, so this is really ironic. And it’s still not very clear if they are aware of everything that has been going on for some time now. However, based on McIlroy’s most recent bold statements, one thing is clear that LIV Golf won’t have an easy time with him for sure.
