Is Allisen Corpuz's form a bigger threat to America's Solheim Cup hopes than we think?

The Captain of Team America chose the last two players to complete the Solheim Cup squad which will battle for redemption against the Europeans at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Va. The lucky two were Lauren Coughlin and Allisen Corpuz. The latter made her Solheim Cup debut at Finca Cortesin in Andalucia, Spain, and set a record of 2-1-1. She won 2.5 points for the USA, including a foursome pairing with Nelly Korda, and bagged the half point in the fourballs with Jennifer Kupcho.

Understandably, Corpuz could be seen as the perfect choice for the Solheim Cup squad but if her recent performances are observed, the 1-time major winner may not be of much help for her team to battle the Europeans on her home soil. Why you ask? Well, from last year, when Corpuz won a major, this year has been uneventful for the 26-year-old pro. Corpuz has carded only two top-10 finishes so far and missed the cut at her title defense at the US Women’s Open.

Furthermore, at the AIG Women’s Open played at the Old Course in St. Andrews, Corpuz could not find her form and missed the cut with 7 over. If her form continues to decline, playing at the Robert Trent Jones GC may produce a similar result, and Corpuz might fail to card any points for Team America. Interestingly, Coughlin, who has had a far better year than Corpuz, also missed the AIG Women’s Open’s cut after winning the Women’s Scottish Open last week.

Corpuz has been struggling with her form in the 2024 season, and with less than 20 days before the Solheim Cup, she will need to buckle up and prepare to the fullest if Americans want to defeat the Europeans after a heartbreaking loss of 14-14 tie in Spain. And amidst the worrisome future, there is one golfer who can truly turn into an asset for Team USA!

Will World no.1 turn the tables for Team USA at the 2024 Solheim Cup?

After a winless season on the LPGA Tour in 2023, Nelly Korda thought that her dominant run in women’s golf was over. But when she came back in the 2024 season, her press returned and she broke left and right after winning six times on the LPGA Tour. Among all, the 26-year-old won her second major at the Chevron Championship.

But two starts and one win later, Korda missed three back-to-back cuts, the first for her career. However, she picked herself up, carded a T26 after three disappointing starts, and looked forward to another breakthrough. This came after she decided to change her putter to a TaylorMade Spider Mallet putter, just as Scottie Scheffler has done this season. The decision seems to be fruitful for Korda as she has taken the 36-hole lead at the AIG Women’s Open and may bag another major victory.

What’s your perspective on:

Is Allisen Corpuz's form a bigger threat to America's Solheim Cup hopes than we think?

Have an interesting take?

With such a dominant run on the LPGA Tour and Korda participating in Solheim with such form, it may only benefit Team USA and not stress more about defeating the Europeans and getting the Solheim Cup after three years. Will Korda remain in her form and will Allisen Corpuz return to hers? It remains to be seen.
