The much-anticipated Ryder Cup began this morning. In the tournament, fighting for their nations’ pride, Team USA, especially, is looking to grab a win! However, the venue is in Rome, and the Americans haven’t been successful in lifting the trophy on home soil for three decades now!
While this stands to be the best time for the US team to break the curse, based on Friday’s performances, it seems like the curse is much stronger than many would have deemed. After all, Team USA received such a hard trashing that even the die-hard ‘Golf Mommy’ Paige Spiranac was left weeping!

Day one of the biennial event started with the Foursome. Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton faced off against Scottie Scheffler and Sam Burns in group one. Rahm and Hatton triumphed by a score of 4&3. In group two, Viktor Hovland and rookie Ludvig Aberg were against Max Homa and Brian Harman. The Europeans prevailed by a score of 4&3.
European competitors Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka defeated American competitors Rickie Fowler and Collin Morikawa by scores of 2&1. Finally, Europe’s favorites Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood defeated Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay by a score of 2&1, winning all four matches!
Needless to say, seeing the Americans fall so far behind left Paige Spiranac, who spent days forecasting the golfers’ statistics, heartbroken. She didn’t even hesitate to share her dissatisfaction online. Posting an old teary-eyed picture of her breaking down at a press conference on Twitter, she wrote, ”Me waking up and looking at the Ryder Cup score.”

This was undeniably a sour start for the US squad, and of course, because of it, Spiranac wasn’t the only American left dismayed. To make things worse, in the day’s second session, Team USA failed to grab a win, tying three of the four fourball games and losing one! These results, unsurprisingly, had all their countrymen and women fuming!

While the European fans celebrated in extacy after gaining 6.5 of the 8 points on Friday, the USA golf loyalists were left shook. Just like Spiranac, they too could not comprehend the loss, and taking to the comments of the golf diva’s post, they expressed just that!
One fan claimed that he shared the golf beauty’s feelings.

Another fan was genuinely disappointed and embarrassed by the Americans’ performance.
Shameful – needed to start dudes with some fire in the belly out of the gate – Spieth & JT or something – my goodness a shameful showing over there!

One European fan empathized with the US side, claiming if roles were reversed, he would have also shed some tears.
I would too if i seen that scoreline particularly against that European team

Some fans turned into analysts and revealed the main reasons behind the scores.
Terrible prep and pairings and sitting out brooks, JT and Speith in first round? Cmon Zach be better!!

what did you think was going to happen? Europeans pick golfers playing well, USA picks their "buddies".

For one fan, this start by the Americans was not one he would soon forget.
This one is gonna hurt…yikes

One fan understood Spiranac’s emotion, but not as deeply, because to him, golf was “just a game.”
Don't be too upset. Your man, Rory, is playing well! 😂
— Alfred Stangl (@AlfredS8) September 29, 2023
One fan consoled Spiranac, asking her not to lose her heart since her favorite player, whom she always roots for, was playing well.
😄…Awwww, I feel you but it's just a game.

The hope for the American side is that there are still two more days to go. Nothing is set in stone yet; however, the victories on day one will certainly give Europe greater momentum, making it ever harder for Team USA to keep up. However, for their fans, Paige Spiranac, and, of course, the win, they must!
