Johnson left the PGA Tour in 2022 and then joined the LIV Golf. Johnson went on to win the sixth and final LIV tournament of the season in Bangkok, winning an $18 million bonus and bringing his total prize money won since joining the new tour to $30,758,600. However, being banned along with other LIV players there certainly might be some tensions between the players of the two leagues. The LIV Tour’s prodigal sons are joining their old teammates in this week’s field, adding some extra spice to the event that already features some of the best golfers in the world competing on what is perhaps the best course in the world.
Although members of the Saudi-sponsored LIV Tour are not allowed to compete in PGA Tour events, they are permitted to do so in Augusta. Players like Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Bubba Watson, and Phil Mickelson who have won the Masters in the past will be present.
With The Masters starting on Thursday, Johnson talked to the media and shared some of his views about the tensions between the PGA Tour players and LIV Golf players. While talking to Sky Sports Golf, Johnson canceled out the tensions he has with the PGA Tour players. Johnson said, “I’ve played a long time with all these guys. So, if I’m playing how I should, I’ll be right there at the end.”

Then Johnson was asked about the dynamic at Augusta with PGA Tour and LIV Golf players going head-to-head for the first time. The 38-year-old replied, “For me it’s the same. All my buddies are still my buddies. It’s still golf. Doesn’t matter where you play at.”

Johnson clearly said that there is no tension between him and the other players. Johnson reveals how he feels confident that nothing is different this time around. However, things surely are different this time around as PGA Tour players go head-to-head with the LIV Golf players for the first time.
There already are many tensions between the two leagues. The PGA Tour players have also criticized the Saudi-funded league and the players who left PGA Tour for LIV Golf. So, the players also have some degree of beefing between them. However, it remains to be seen whether they will take this hostile atmosphere on to the course too.
