LIV Golf’s off-season changes are set to change the dynamic on greens. Not only will we see some new names raking the greens, but we might also witness some old dynamics come back to life. Amid these transformations, out with the old, and in with the new, LIV Golf next year will have a play-in tournament. What this entails is a 36-hole play-in tournament in Abu Dhabi called “LIV Golf Promotions,” for players to join the tour directly. The tourney will be played from December 8-10 and will offer a massive $1.5 million purse.
Another one of the biggest changes is going to be a re-sign period with zones where, at the end of each season, LIV will categorize players on expiring contracts into three zones: Lock Zone, Open Zone, and Drop Zone. The players will also get free agency to sign on any of the teams of their liking.
The game doesn’t end here. LIV is also introducing in-season trading which means that the team will open the door to trade members. This is included in order to have a multifaced team dynamic. Other than all this LIV will also host a draft that will feature the top three positioned players from the play-in tournament and the winner of the Asian Tour’s International Series Order of Merit.
With all these new changes coming in, Greg Norman aims at making LIV a trademark within itself. Something he also calls a benchmark.
Greg Norman’s new ‘Watering Hole’ updates
In an interview recently, Greg Norman let the cat out of the bag and admitted to his ambitious plans for expanding the innovative ‘Watering Hole’ project. As per his claims, the project gained immense popularity during the 2023 LIV Adelaide event and so its upgrading to something even grand was about time.
Greg Norman speaking with Australian Golf Digest says the “watering hole” at LIV Adelaide could be even bigger next year:
“I think the success of the watering hole could be expanded because of the popularity of it. I think you can get more spectators around there.”
