The PGA Tour’s leaked memo may have wreaked havoc and the DP World Tour’s memo may have ignited hope. Still, they are the non-interesting parts of any tournament or circuit.

LIV Golf, however, managed to make memos interesting as well. The revolutionary Tour likes to do things their way and their unique take on usual activities makes it intriguing for more than one reason. LIV Golf’s latest memo to the players certainly caught everyone’s attention.

What the LIV Golf memo says

The Saudi circuit is relatively new on the scene of professional golf tournaments. Although they do have their own set of rules, which interestingly includes ‘no cuts,’ they have been some of the major attractions for golfers joining the PIF-funded events. However, due to regulation violations and lengthy debates, the Saudi tour decided to send out a short and sweet memo for their players.

The document states the protocols for balls landing on the edge of fairways or in outbound areas and the regulations associated with such circumstances. The memo reads, “When any part of a player’s ball touches part of the general area cut to fairway height or less, the player may place the original ball or another ball within ONE Club length of the original lie.”

It further talks about how the player must place the ball in the newly assigned position in case it rolls away. Many fans found hilarity in the inscription of the ‘lie’ and the rules where the ball needs to be placed again and again if it rolls out repeatedly. On a serious note, the memo also specified that if the ball does not stay in place then the player can place it at the same distance from the hole at a different spot close by.

This new amendment is an interesting addition given the number of disagreements that other circuits are facing in similar conditions.

Justin Thomas had a 10-minute argument in a similar situation

At a par-4 of the Sedgefield Country Club, Justin Thomas and Adam Scott had identical shots that may or may not have landed in the creek. It caused a 10-minute delay in gameplay and inspired a lot of debate. LIV Golf, on the other hand, seems to take such circumstances in stride most of the time.

The laid-back approach to the 54-hole circuit is interrupted by the memo. One amused fan wrote, “Bryson’s drive rolled out just fine and it is blue skies. Why the preferred lies? Coddle the LIV players much?” The rules appear pretty straightforward and intended to simplify any debatable situation without conflict.
