The Solheim Cup had already made headlines, from poor coverage to jammed roadways delaying spectators’ entrance. Adding to this was the caddie incident involving Alison Lee and Megan Khang, taking on Europe’s Anna Nordqvist and Madelene Sagstrom. Lee’s caddie, Taylor Shota Takada, had an idea.
After they made a hole-in-one, their caddies ripped off their shirts in the middle of the course, celebrating Lee’s eagle. They hugged the players, and there wasn’t much else to say about it. However, they did receive a lot of backlash from the golf community. But before that, let me remind you, there was no appreciation for how they won the match. Amidst all the chaos, Captain Stacy Lewis shared her favorite moment of the team.
Stacy Lewis sat down for an interview with SiriusXM PGA Tour, and their official Instagram account shared clips of the interview. For Captain Lewis, the best part was seeing her teammates get comfortable with each other and being their true selves. To celebrate the victory, as she mentioned, Lewis got a video where Nelly Korda and the entire team had a jukebox on their shoulder, and they sang I Wanna Dance With Somebody while walking into the hotel.

The bar erupted listening to them. This was the captain’s favorite moment. As she said, “This is the coolest thing ever, to see them so happy and to be going nuts like this.” This the first time the American team had the opportunity to take home the crystal trophy since 2017. They indeed had every right to celebrate however they wanted to.

While the victory might seem like a rather modest one to others, for Stacy Lewis and the American team, it meant more than anything. The team had already faced two ties and two losses against the European team. For Lewis, Lilia Vu landing her approach near the 18th hole for the winning score made the entire team feel like it was the longest hour of her life. She was reminded of the last edition.

Stacy Lewis cried on the airplane while flying back from Spain
Last year, the score of the Solheim Cup was a 14-14 draw in Spain. As the interview continued, Stacy Lewis had flashbacks of the last edition. “It didn’t hit me until I got on the airplane. I just lost it and I started crying.” She was so disappointed that after all the work she and the girls had put in, they had to go back with a tie. She made up her mind at that moment that she did not want to be on the losing side next time and started working towards it.
“I’m so proud of this team,” Lewis said. “They fought through some adversity this week and played some unbelievable golf. I’m proud that they get this moment to celebrate,” added the captain.
