The LIV Golf Series has been involved in a number of high-profile cases since the last year. While many of them are still at a standpoint, certain members of the LIV Golf Series have lost their case against the DP Tour body.

The repercussions of the ruling have been exorbitant. Seventeen DP Tour members, who jumped to LIV, have been hit with a £100,000 ($126,000) penalty. One of the most influential players in European golf, Garcia has etched into people’s memories as a Ryder Cup stalwart. Yet, when the tournament returns to the continent later this year, the Spanish veteran will be far away from the event.

While there will be various reasons for Garcia’s absence, the most obvious one will be iterated into his own decision. The 43-year-old turned in his DP Tour membership after losing their case at the Wentworth HQ last month, thus omitting himself for selection from the prestigious biennial event.

It was followed by the DP Tour’s decision to sanction its players with a £100,000 fine, which all but Garcia paid diligently. However, to get their hands full, the touring body is reportedly preparing unprecedented fines of up to £500,000 ($630,000), which has thrown anguish in the LIV camp.

However, this is where Garcia’s plans have become a go-to for other defectors.

Why are other star names preparing to surrender their DP Tour membership?

If early reports are to be believed, popular players such as Henrik Stenson, Paul Casey, and Martin Kaymer are all set to copy what Garcia and a few others did – surrender their DP Tour membership. This drastic step will evict them of the Ryder Cup selection, but, like Stenson experienced last year, their chances of appearing at the event were already down the drain.

But why choose to renounce their title now? With more hefty fines incoming, the DP Tour has given a strong indication of continuing this onslaught. This could mean a series of fines for every LIV event they play, as long as their DP Tour membership remains intact.
