It is a little short of two months since the framework agreement among the PGA Tour, DP World Tour, and LIV Golf came to light. Since then, many LIV Golfers have rejoiced for the opportunity to return to the American and European Tour, while others have proclaimed their stance in staying with the Saudi-backed circuit.

Jay Monahan recently released a detailed memo stating that the terms are finally coming together and many reformations are being considered to make the transition smooth. But a new controversy may be on the horizon based on the contents of the memo.

In his recent memo, the commissioner of the PGA Tour mentioned that the players who wish to return will be subjected to the disciplinary task force and may have to undergo Q-school to acquire their PGA Tour card.

There was a particular segment that drew the attention of 6-time major winner Phil Mickelson, where the memo mentioned that the players who filed lawsuits while defecting to the 54-hole circuit will probably not be welcomed back. Others who left without consequence will have an opportunity to be part of the Tour again.

Lefty was definitely ticked off by the seclusion. They filed lawsuits simply because they were penalized and it was a new and uncanny situation. He wrote back saying, “What a colossal waste of time. Not a single player on LIV wants to play PGA Tour. It would require a public apology and restitution to LIV players for paying millions to Clout media to disparage all of us. A better topic is future sanctions for the many players who now come to LIV.”

Looks like the 6-time major winner is certain that he has no intention of returning to the American tour. His rapid lettering in his tweet that he shared shows his agitation towards the new clauses that are about to affect him as well as other LIV golfers. Being subjected to so many controversies and a lot of bad blood between the PGA board and Mickelson has left a bad taste in him.

Mickelson’s run this season

In the 2022-23 season, Phil Mickelson and many others played in several PGA Tour and DP World Tour events. However, Mickelson missed the cut in more than one major. He also faced a lot of backlash from the golfing community.

LIV golf, on the other hand, has been good to the 53-year-old pro. He seems rather satisfied with the events that do not have a cut to make and only involve playing across 54 holes instead of 72. He has stood by LIV golf, shutting down rumors and taking a stand for his peers on the PIF-funded circuit whenever the opportunity presented itself.
