The events that transpired in Tiger Woods‘ life over the past couple of years might have come as no less than a shock to the golfer and the sports community. Moreover, the golf world has seen the fifteen-time major champion make the headlines several times, from getting injured in an accident in 2021, to the rumor of his comeback in the upcoming Nexus Cup despite his absence from the upcoming patriotic showdown.

Woods has not managed to do away with the unlucky streak as recent news claimed that his partnership with the ex-president, Barack Obama, fell through after 7 years. The association between the ex-POTUS and the legend of the game broke down as the former’s foundation backed away from the agreement- a deal worth $70,000,000!

The influential politician had signed an agreement with TGR Design, the designing firm of the golfing legend to combine two South Side golf courses near the Obama Presidential Center in 2016. As per the deal, the 18-hole Jackson Park and the nine-hole South Shore golf courses would be merged into one course that can reach the standards of the PGA Tour.

But the 47-year-old was in for a surprise as Obama’s foundation made moves to distance itself from the plans as officials stated how the foundation is “singularly focused” on opening the presidential center by 2025 in Jackson Park. Moreover, CEO Valerie Jarrett revealed how she had only “heard ‘rumors’ that a golf course overhaul is even still in play” while pointing out how they are not pursuing the same

The project, worth $70 million, had been stalled for seven years after then-Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced the partnership. The plans were unable to be laid due to challenges including those in the key aspects of fundraising and response from the local leaders.

Even though it never came into action, the new plans were contested by many including local activists and neighbors as they deemed various concerns. There were protests that rose against the same as the partnership between the golfer and ex-president was announced.

The trees that were planned to be cut down in Jackson Park, South Shore Nature Sanctuary for the Tiger Woods Golf Course, were saved by local activists. They pushed for the preservation of the same as the Save Jackson Park group filed a petition along with other organizers with the Chicago Board of Elections to place a question on the ballots.

Although the result would not bind any politicians from doing the same, it still became an indicator to measure the opinions of the people regarding deforestation for the course plans.

In another such contestation, the neighbors were divided on the plans as they feared it would drive them out of the golfing community. The new course, planned to level with the PGA Tour standards, would undoubtedly push out the neighborhood golfers who have used the greens for years through an increase in price.
