Beloved golf icon Tiger Woods is admired by his fans for more than one reason. He put the sport of professional golf on the map and drew attention to age-old traditions with his unparalleled skills. The World Golf Hall of Famer surpassed the billionaire landmark at an earlier age than most celebrities and ran ahead of active sportspeople.

Woods created a signature for himself with his skills, influence, and even his attire. His fans come from all age groups and professions. It is not uncommon for admirers of the golf legend to pay tribute to him from time to time. While DJ Khaled’s effort may have been perceived as misguided by fans, one aspiring golfer took his own approach to commemorate the legacy of Tiger Woods.

Amateur golfer pays a subtle tribute to golf legend Tiger Woods

The Walker Cup 2023 is underway at St. Andrews this season and a number of talented amateur golfers are fighting for the prestigious trophy. Gordon Sargent is among the most-watched amateur golfers for his immense talent with a club. The 20-year-old golfer is not only tearing it out on the course but he decided to pay tribute to a golf hero with his attire at the Walker Cup.

Sargent was spotted dressed to a tee in an amalgamation of Tiger Woods’ signature outfits. The short-sleeved salmon shirt coupled with dark trousers and a black sweater vest along with the white Nike shoes was awfully reminiscent of the Golf GOAT’s wardrobe choices over the years. On the 12th par 4, when the Amateur golfer shot 336 yards, he reminded the golf world of a young Tiger Woods.

The pink shade of the polo resembled several shirts donned by the 82-time PGA Tour winner over the years, most memorably at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, The World Golf Championship, and the PNC Championship. Another extraordinary resemblance of Sargent’s outfit to Woods’ was the famous sweater vest. Since he announced his hiatus from professional golf due to the effects of his injuries, fans have missed Mr. T in action. The subtle tribute definitely brightened up their day. 

Although his choice of clothes was very apt, Sargent’s similarities to the 5-time Masters champion extend far beyond the confines of the dressing room.

The amateur golfer’s conquests

Gordon Sargent is among the most well-regarded amateurs in the royal sport who has demonstrated great potential. This season alone, the 20-year-old aspiring pro competed in 4 PGA Tour events. Even though he missed the cut in 50% of them, which includes the Masters Tournament where Tiger Woods announced his withdrawal, he earned his amateur honors when he finished T39 at the US Open.

Apart from his wardrobe, it looks like Sargent is attempting to replicate some of the significant achievements of the GOAT Golfer. His immense admiration for his predecessor is noteworthy. After all, ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.’
