While the two-time major winner bagged a Ryder Cup win in 2021, now, two years later, his chances look bleak and almost as good as over. Quite evidently, Johnson cannot choose a golfer in poor form, and as far as his automatic selection is concerned, he currently sits at 15 in the US Team standings. Thus, his last resort remains the FedEx playoffs. But is he even playing in the FedEx events?
The answer to this is NO. According to a report,Justin Thomas, who sits in the 71st position in the FedEx standings with 608 points, couldn’t qualify for the Tour Championship. As far as the game at East Lake Golf Course is concerned, only the top 30 FedEx standings players will get a chance to tee off on August 24.
But Thomas might be seen in another event, the Fortinet Championship, taking place at the Silverado Resort and Spa-North Course. Along with him, Max Homa would also be seen teeing off at the event, which starts on September 14.
Now, apart from Justin Thomas, there are several other golfers who have garnered enough points throughout the season to maintain their standard positions in the standings and have shown stellar performances in the previous two FedEx events. And these players will be appearing at the Tour Championship.
Which players are playing at the Tour Championship?
The FedEx Cup Playoff format has changed this season, and only the top thirty golfers will be qualifying for the last FedEx playoffs event. So, here are some names that are likely to be seen in this week’s game:
