Does Hideki Matsuyama's Chick-fil-A craze make him more relatable to fans? What's your take?

“I had Chick-fil-A last night, and in Denver, I think they have Chick-fil-A, so that’s probably where I’ll celebrate tomorrow,” said Hideki Matsuyama after winning the St. Jude Championship last week. In the post-round presser at TPC Southwind, the Japanese Pro admitted to delaying his victory celebrations because the Chick-fil-A stays closed on Sundays.

This is a tradition that they follow so that the people come back craving their menus after a long weekend. No matter what happens, it was pretty clear that for Matsuyama, there was no celebration without a meal from the American fast-food joint. He also added that he had already enjoyed a meal from it on Saturday night as a pre-celebration.

Days after revealing his love for Chick-fil-A, Smylie Kauffman reveals another trip essential that the Japanese Pro demands. A few hours ago, Smylie Kauffman shared snippets of his latest podcast on his official Instagram account. He was joined by Charlie Hulme as they spoke about Matsuyama. Kauffman revealed how big Matsuyama is on IHOP, according to the information that he has gathered. He said, “Hideki plans where he lives every week based on where the IHOP is.”

He further added that if one was in America during any PGA Tour event, they had a high chance of bumping into Matsuyama at an IHOP. It seems like the Japanese Pro is big on pancakes. Kauffman’s amusement with this revelation did not stop at a mere chance of meeting the PGA Tour Pro at an IHOP, he drew a big fancy picture, featuring Matsuyama in his Masters green jacket.

He said, “Maybe he wears his green jacket from time to time there, wears the Bronze medal.” After all, someone from Matsuyama’s team was spotted with an IHop coffee recently which led the hosts to conclude that in their next video, they can say, “Come eat with Hideki at IHOP.”

Astonishingly, it turns out, the co-host Hulme too is a pancake fan, just like the Japanese Pro. As he replied in surprise, “Me and Brian, we are seconds away from an IHOP.” Hideki Matsuyama, who is often seen as a reserved personality in the golf world, is not just an IHOP fanatic, but he is a foodie through and through. Even when he organized the Masters dinner in 2022 as a tradition after his win, his menu was top-notch.

The 28 YO included Miso glazed black cod and Miyazaki wagyu, which is a proper classic Japanese cuisine. He gave a bit of his personal touch to it, to enhance the taste and flavours. The Japanese Strawberry Shortcake with whipped cream was indeed the ultimate dessert to conclude the Japanese Classic meal.

He also had assorted sushi, sashimi, and nigiri for appetizers. For people who couldn’t consume raw fish, he also kept the Yakitori Skewers. His menu was truly made by someone who understands providence, and not to mention every course got an A+!
