Should Jon Rahm prioritize family over the $18 million LIV Golf Chicago event? What's your take?

Jon Rahm is on the cusp of etching his name into LIV Golf history. He only has Joaquin Niemann to beat in order to secure $18 million and a diamond-encrusted gold championship ring. But that may not be the only reason the coming months are going to be special for Rahm.

Reportedly, his wife is also expecting to give birth in the coming months and he might have to withdraw from one of the events he is playing to witness the birth of his third child. He said after the first round of LIV Golf Chicago, “Third time around. They’ve always been around tournament play. They’ve never come in the off-season. It’s just life at that point; nothing you can control. I’ve got to go and play golf, and if at some point they tell me it’s time to go, then I’m gone.”

On the day, Rahm was placed T11 with a 1 under par with Niemann at T4 with 2 under par. Brooks Koepka led the standings at 8 under par. With the individual championship on the line, Niemann and Rahm are separated by only 3 points. For Rahm to win, he would have to finish the LIV Golf Chicago tournament ahead of Niemann to win the $18 million bonus.

When asked by reporters if his mind wandered during the round towards his child’s birth, he said that it hadn’t and that he would need to call his people and ask how it was going. He said that if informed that the birth was happening, he would then have to withdraw and leave to support his wife in labor.

Rahm has said he has entered to play in the Dunhill Links Championship and the Andalusia Masters as well, which gives him four starts, counting the Olympics also. This would secure his eligibility to play in the Ryder Cup.

This is great news for fans of the former World No. 1 and Master’s Champion. He will be returning to his home country in mid-October for both landmark events.
