Although Collin Morikawa’s Memphis outing didn’t yield the desired result (T22), his wife is committed to giving back. Katherine Morikawa has started fundraising for the patients at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. She captioned her Instagram story, “One mile at a time for those who can’t. Please donate to support St.Jude! We’ll be matching donations.”
Her watch showed she had already run 18 miles, taking 2 hours, 48 minutes, 41 seconds. In the process, she has already raised $6,584. There is a bigger goal in this. The fundraising page reads, “I am a St. Jude Hero! I have chosen to run for a reason bigger than myself by fundraising for the kids and families at St. Jude.”
She is actually training for a race day. And, she intends to cross the finish line, of both the race and the fundraising. Asking others to donate to her cause, Katherine wrote that St.Jude never sends a bill to the patients’ families. The cost of treatment is borne by the hospital.

On top of it, St.Jude provides free accommodation to up to four people from the patient’s family, daily food credit inside the cafeteria, and a fixed stipend to buy food outside. There is also an onsite school at St.Jude so that kids can keep up with their studies.
St.Jude’s research has helped find a cure that has increased the survival rate from 20% to 80%. Moreover, the hospital follows a very open policy. The research findings are shared across the globe with other hospitals.
Listing all these, Katherine Morikawa wrote, “Even when the race is over, the fight to end childhood cancer continues.” Her pledge to support the hospital has resonated with many. Some of her husband’s colleagues have also donated to her cause.

The list of donors shows that Annie Spieth has donated $1000. It should be noted that the Jordan Spieth Family Foundation donated $500,000 to the hospital just a week ago. On top of it, Spieth’s wife, likely in a personal capacity, has pledged more for the cause.

Rickie Fowler, although not inside the FedEx St. Jude field, has donated $500 to the cause. The Fowler family also runs a charity, the Rickie Fowler Foundation. Both Fowler and Morikawa were actively involved in raising funds to support Maui after the devastating wildfire.
Fowler donned a hat with an ‘L’ etched on it. The amount raised by selling the hats was donated to rebuild Maui, the host of the season-opening The Sentry. Whereas, Morikawa pledged to donate $2000 for birdies, and $4000 for eagles. It seems they have found another cause to align with.
