TGL will start on January 9 and will take place in the high-tech SoFi Center. The league has confirmed all 24 players’ roster; however, one team remains to be added. The game will have match play and singles. For match play, two teams will have 3 of the best players in a 3 vs. 3 competition.
The match play, called Triples, will be played for 1-9 holes. While singles, the second session will continue from the 10th to the 15th hole. Additionally, like any other sport, TGL will have a referee, too. He will be responsible for enforcing rules and coordinating with the booth officials.
Two added rules in TGL are shot clock and timeout. For the shot clock, a player will have 40 seconds on the clock to possess the ball. The shot clock will restart if the following occurs:
- After every golfer’s turn is over.
- A player violates the shot clock and receives a 1-stroke penalty
- A team calls for a timeout (more on it below).
- A player breaks any rules.
- The referee or other officials call for it under unforeseen circumstances.
For timeout, each team will be given four timeouts to use in session one (match play) and session two (singles). Over the 15 holes, the teams can have only two timeouts in a single session. They can’t be carried over to the next session if unused. A team cannot call timeouts consecutively, and any team member can call for it. Last, a team has 40 seconds before their chance to call for TO expires. The opposite team should wait until the other team has shot the ball.

More on match format
A single match will have 15 holes. 1-9 holes for 3 vs. 3, alternate play, and 10-15 holes for singles. A team hitting the lowest score for a particular hole will win the hole and one point for triples. For singles, players will go head-to-head, and the fewest strokes win that hole, similarly gaining one point.
If a match ends in a tie, the game will go to overtime for a 3 vs. 3 run, and the team with two shots closest to the hole will win. Like hockey, a match win will give 2 points on the overall standing while a loss gets zero. However, a loss in overtime will benefit the team with one point.
