The three-round Ascension Charity Classic concluded on Sunday. The four-time PGA Tour winner took the solo lead of the event after three rounds with a score of nine under par in the final round, resulting in a total of 19 under par for the entire event.
However, this event was not just another regular tournament for Steve Flesch. This time, he had a special person on his bag caddying for him, and that special person was none other than his own son, Griffin. Griffin played a major role in his father’s $300,000 victory. During a post-round conference, the father spoke about the dynamic the duo shared on the course.

In the press conference after the round, Steve Flesch mentioned that he did not anticipate a day like “today” when he boarded his flight to the tournament on Wednesday. He was quick to acknowledge that having Griffin, his son, on the bag did add a certain pressure for him to perform well.
However, he pointed out that in the past, he had won tournaments with family members present, such as his daughter and his fiancée. Hence, he felt the need to win an event for his son this time.
Flesch also credited Griffin for his positive outlook on the course, which eventually became a key factor in his success. He said, “He’s got a great demeanor out there, and he’s very positive. In the past, I’ve always been the one who’s gotten upset and screwed things up, but today I got off to a good start.”
He described winning with Griffin as his caddy as a “career clincher for me.” Clearly, aside from the sweet victory, having his son around was the most important thing for him.
