The Ryder Cup teams were finalized on Monday evening, with Luke Donald announcing his six picks. Now both the teams, Team US and Team Europe, are ready to face off against each other.

Announcement of the picks, however, were not free from controversy. The 12 players qualify through automatic qualification and captain’s picks. While the first one values merit, the second one is left at the discretion of the captain. Thus it goes without saying that there would be contradictory opinions on the captain’s picks.

The excitement surrounding the finalization of the Ryder Cup teams took a new turn when Luke Donald’s captain’s picks were revealed. The squad had several popular names omitted, in particular the 3-time DPWT Champion Adrian Meronk, who won an event on the very course Ryder Cup will be played later this month.

His omission in favor of Shane Lowry raised eyebrows and stirred controversy within the golfing community and has attracted major criticism from the media and fans. Even prominent golfers have voiced their opinions regarding this pick. LIV Golfer Richard Bland too could not hold back his criticism of the pick.

However, instead of getting bitter, Adrian Meronk demonstrated remarkable sportsmanship and maturity. He took to Twitter to convey his best wishes to Team Europe with a simple yet heartfelt message: “good luck @RyderCupEurope.”

Fans applauded his attitude toward this setback that he did not deserve. His tweet received some really encouraging replies from his fans and the golfing community.

Widespread Discontent Over Selection Process

Many fans and golfing enthusiast voiced their opinions on social media. The dissatisfaction with Adrian being left out of the team was clearly evident in the chain of tweets that followed his message.

Numerous fans were disappointed, believing that Meronk had earned a place on the team. This one saluted Meronk’s classy attitude.

Some supporters expressed frustration over the captain’s choice not aligning with earlier statements about selecting players based on current form.

Meronk’s talents and potential were acknowledged by many, leading to a sense of injustice in his omission.

One fan called his tweet a class act. He is impressed that Meronk is holding his chin up in the adverse situation.

Even American fans agree that Meronk should have been in the team. Using the soccer (football in Europe) terminology, one fan said Meronk was robbed.
