As we bid adieu to another year that has flown by, Google is back with its annual recap; this time for 2021. As per stats and rightly so, the golf world has been preoccupied with its legendary sweetheart, Tiger Woods, following his grim accident.

A little while ago, Google released a complete list of the most searched terms, globally, as well as for individual countries. A look at the list will provide a whirlwind of memories from the year, including Bernie Sanders, coronavirus, the squid games, and Indian cricket’s dominance.

We, however, were fixated on the one name that has multiple appearances throughout the compilation; Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods was the most googled athlete in 2021

Topping the list for the most searched athlete in 2021 in the United States is none other than the 15-time major champion and 82-time winner on the PGA Tour, Tiger Woods. Woods has managed to bag the top spot, despite not teeing up a single time in the past year.

The other athletes who made it are Simone Biles, Henry Ruggs III, Odell Beckham Jr, and Aaron Rodgers. In addition, he was the second most searched personality, next only to teenager Kyle Rittenhouse.

In the global lists, Woods again was on top of the charts. He is the second most searched athlete globally while Danish Footballer Christian Eriksen bags the top spot, owing to his near-death experience on the field. Simone Biles, Emma Raducanu, and Henry Ruggs III follow suit.

Why was Woods on everyone’s mind?

Sadly, Woods suffered a terrible single-car crash in February. Subsequently, he underwent multiple surgeries on his right leg, involving the insertion of a rod into the tibia and the use of screws and pins to stabilize other parts of his leg.

The 45-year-old has remained underground since, working on his recovery. Anticipating his return, rumors have gone viral, with multiple sources, both credible and fake, claiming to have information about the same. Given the curiosity of fans, any news pertaining to icon has been trending. As a result, any communication from the man himself has also gone viral, including the time he released a video of him practicing on the range.
