Lexi Thompson is having quite the night. Just months after etching her name on history, the 11-time LPGA Tour winner now rubs shoulders with the likes of Nancy Lopez, Judy Rankin, and Juli Inkster. Despite not playing at the CME Group Tour Championship, Thompson walked the green carpet at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort courtesy of winning the Founders Award.
Chosen by her peers for showcasing the spirit and ideals of LGPA’s founders, the 28-year-old walked up to the podium teary-eyed and walked down, all smiles hugging Nancy Lopez. For her fans, it was a feast for their eyes. The Florida native hasn’t had her best season. But that didn’t matter as world no. 28 went on to have perhaps one of the most memorable nights of her life.

“I’m trying not to cry. I was already a little bit crying over there,” if you had any doubt about the award’s significance, Lexi Thompson’s words will put it to rest. The most brilliant thing about the Honor is, it is not selected by any board members. Rather, it’s the LPGA Tour pros who vote for one of their peers. This year, it was Lexi Thompson.
Reflecting on her journey of 14 years with friends, the one-time Major winner said, “I’ve cherished every single friendship that I have made.” We don’t know who voted for the 2014 Kraft Nabisco Champion, but Jessica Korda, no doubt has given her thumbs up.
Thompson went on to talk about her plans and how Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez has inspired her journey. Referring to Lopez, Thompson stated, “has won every tournament possibly.” But the 48-time LPGA Tour winner was lauded more for her contribution to the game of golf after her retirement. Thompson, ever seeking to inspire and uplift, finds a resonance there. More than her result after her career, she wants to “leave the game in a better place.”

For Thompson’s fans, she is still the best
Lexi Thompson has reached the top spot of the Rolex World Ranking 12 times in her 11-year career. Although, a current dip in form has slipped her to no.28, for her fans she will “always be no.1.”

However, Thompson has not been on her A-game this season. She has made only three top-ten finishes this year and missed cuts in all but one major. Naturally, fans hope to see her back on top next season.
Classy, talented and gorgeous. Can’t wait to see her in the winners circle again.

But that has not barred golf fans from enjoying her booming drives and gracious swings. A fan was one of us when they said this.

Thompson’s PGAT debut was a hot topic for discussion for a good part of last month. Although she failed to make the cut, she came extremely close, inspiring the young female golfers, as this fan pointed out.
Thank you Lexi for all you have, and will do for the great game of golf.

Wearing a black sequined dress, Thompson turned many heads at the gala. It caught the eyes of a few for sure, as Thompson always does, but one fan took the time to point it out.
That’s the best I’ve ever seen her look. Quite stunning!
