Tiger Woods has finally entered the SoFi Center. However, his much-anticipated TGL debut didn’t go as smoothly as planned. The Los Angeles Golf Club secured a win over Jupiter Links Golf Club. But guess what? The match was entertaining enough, both for the fans and the players. At least Kevin Kisner made sure it was.
The TGL is a rather new format, and the players have yet to wrap their heads around it. As it turns out, Kevin Kisner is equally confused. On the 14th hole, after Woods hit the ball into the bunker and struggled to get it out, Kisner hit it into the bunker too. He too struggled to get it out causing an absolute mess. It went directly and hit the TGL flag’s halyard, and was out to hit someone in the stands. But gladly, didn’t! The only reason? It caromed off the pin!
Well, there is no doubt that Kevin Kisner struggled, but he made a complete fool out of himself. So much so that even Tiger Woods and Max Homa could not control their laughter. “Hardest I have ever laughed”, said Max Homa, while Tiger Woods said, “I didn’t think anyone could get hit out here.” He also said, “Kis almost killed somebody.” A fan echoed a similar sentiment, “Kevin Kisner almost killed a fan in TGL golf, funniest thing ever.”

At the post-event press conference, when asked about the mess at the 14th, Woods said, “Well, we honestly didn’t think that anyone could possibly get hit in here. But that was one of the funniest moments I’ve ever seen, Kis hitting that shot like that. We were just dying. The chip shot, the next one should have gone in. That would have been just like the most all-world 3, and it was just one of those weird nights. Then on top of that, Kis has — is the microphone still stuck in your ear?” So, that haywire shot wasn’t the only trouble for Kisner.

The Jupiter Links Golf Club might have lost, but that is not all yet. The league’s format required all 15 holes to be played. This has caused the broadcast to extend beyond its scheduled 7-9 PM ET window, creating another ruckus. It caused scheduling tension as the Duke-Miami basketball game featuring rising star Cooper Flagg was set to tip off shortly on ESPN, leaving fans and broadcasters scrambling. Taking to this, one of them commented, “The thought of Duke fans tuning in and being immediately horrified to instead have to watch Kevin Kisner blade a 14-foot bunker shot is pure happiness”
Even though Los Angeles Golf Club has won its match against Jupiter Links, TGL has to play all 15 holes. The broadcast is running over its allotted 7-9pm ET broadcast window. Cooper Flagg and Duke-Miami supposed to tip off shortly on ESPN.

Kevin Kisner did a stint behind the microphone during the FedEx Cup coverage, dubbed happy hour. According to members of the golf community, it didn’t quite hit the mark. Observers remarked that he appeared unusually animated and spoke incessantly, often veering off-topic from the tournament itself. While some speculated that he might have been attempting to inject humor into the broadcast, many felt it missed the mark. He is very vocal and is usually the one passing criticism. But this time, it was different. Taking to this, one of them wrote, “Man, it’s so great to see professional shit-talker Kevin Kisner embarrass himself out there. Full on the tail in between legs.”
Be it entertaining or heart-wrenching for Tiger Woods’s fans to see his team lose, one thing is certain. The match did in fact have great energy. Let’s not forget the challenge the teams gave each other.

Tiger Woods made sure his debut was interesting
Tiger Woods’s entry was an immaculate one. As he entered the venue, he was the last man out with the opening bars. The song in the background? Pretty much predictable, “Eye of the Tiger.” Charlie didn’t like it much, we think!
“We’re going to have fun. I’ve got two unbelievably great talkers on my team, I think we’ll be giving each other crap more than the other team. We just want to showcase golf and have a lot of fun and entertain everyone who’s watching,” Woods said. As the 49-year-old was set to make the opening shot of the match, he was seen instantly pulling out the hammer flag. He dropped it, and the opponent had to accept the challenge. This made the first hole worth two points.

Woods found the fairway with his tee shot, matched by Justin Rose for L.A., and the hole ended in a tie with both players making par. Despite all the efforts, it was a wasted attempt. Los Angeles secured a dominant 12-1 victory over Jupiter Links on a night where, according to Woods’s assessment, his team hit five balls into penalty areas.
