The PGA Tour is currently in Southampton, Bermuda, and trying to complete the Butterfield Bermuda Championship without any more mishaps. It wasn’t expected that the penultimate event of the FedEx Fall season would have so many hiccups before its conclusion. As has been the case of many PGA Tour events throughout the 2024 season, the Butterfield Bermuda Championship was not spared either.
Initially, the opening round was delayed and resumed on Friday. Then the second round faced the same fate as 11 golfers failed to conclude their rounds because of darkness. The second round was pushed to Saturday and the players started at 7:00 a.m. local time. In 26 minutes, the round finished and a cutline of 2 under 140 was made with only 75 golfers getting to play on the weekends.
Because of this delay, the third-round tee times were released late and the round was rescheduled to start between 8:08 and 10:20 a.m. If the field believed that the worst had passed, they would be wrong. The weather forecast shows that there is a 70% chance of rain with thunderstorms. The large and dark cloud would cover the Port Royal Golf Course once again and there is a likely chance that the third round may get suspended and delayed.

This will push the third round to the final round, on Sunday and may force a Monday finish. While the PGA Tour tackles the weather, there are two other issues that they can’t get rid of.
PGA Tour hurdles with disqualification and many withdrawals
Even before the Butterfield Bermuda Championship, Chesson Hadley withdrew from the event, and the field was adjusted by Robert Streb. But that was just the start. By the time, the second round was delayed and resumed on Saturday, two more golfers withdrew from the event that had the prize purse of $6.9 million.

Are weather delays ruining the excitement of the PGA Tour, or adding to the drama?
Have an interesting take?
The reason for the two withdrawals was not disclosed and the next player to leave the field was, Raul Pereda. The PGA Tour didn’t reveal the reason but Pereda was disqualified during the second round. The one reason many golfers get qualified is by signing the wrong scorecards or not following the rules.
Nonetheless, as the third round continues, the PGA Tour and the fans hope that the weather turns out to be better with no darkness hampering the round and all the 75 golfers staying in the field until the winner is announced on Sunday, that is, if the Butterfield Bermuda Championship gets to end on Sunday.
