Last year, Brooks Koepka left the PGA Tour to play in the LIV Golf Series. Soon after, all the defectors were announced to be from participating in PGA Tour events, and a lot of uncertainty loomed around their contention in the Ryder Cup. Hence, all the LIV stars, including the 5-time major winner, were written off.

However, with his stunning performances in all three majors and especially with his win at the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill Country Club, he has turned many heads. Since then, the LIV star has found the praise of many fans and players alike, including the former three-time Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher.

The Scottish legend recently opened up about who he’d think will take home the Claret Jug next week on Sunday, and it was none other than the 2-time LIV champion. Koepka is what you could call a serial major winner… He’s definitely a favorite for the Open, said Gallachar, as per Bunkered’s recent report. He won the recent USPGA Championship on the difficult course at Oak Hill, taking his total major tally to five.”

Koepka’s unfortunate history at the Open Championship

The LIV star has undoubtedly always harbored the dream of winning the Open Championship. However, he’s never gotten too close to grabbing the cup. In 2013, Koepka debuted at the event, and much like many debutantes, she missed the cut on Friday. Thereafter, Koepka played in all seven of the editions of the British Open that followed, placing in the top 10 four separate times.

His best ever came in 2019, when he Tied for fourth place at the major. In 2022, Koepka missed the cut at the event for the second time. However, this year he will certainly be looking to redeem himself for that. And considering the form he’s in and the hot streak he’s on, perhaps he just might!
