The DP World Tour has reached the Sun City of South Africa for the final event before the players fight in Dubai for the DP World Tour Champions title. The 4-day event will start on 9th November and will crown the Nedbank Golf Challenger on 12th November.

As the penultimate event on the tour, the two-time defending champion, Tommy Fleetwood, is coming back to make it a hat trick. Fleetwoods Ryder Cup rivals Max Homa and Justin Thomas are also on the field. Fleetwood will have a tough challenge this year. Ahead of the competition, Fleetwoods’ last year’s journey has caught the attention of the people.

Tommy Fleetwood first won the Nedbank Golf Challenge in 2019 while defeating Marcus Kinhult in the playoffs. After the event had a 2-year break owing to the COVID-19 pandemic, Fleetwood returned to the event in 2022 to win it again.

In 2022, Fleetwood clinched his 6th DPWT victory as he successfully defended his title at the Nedbank Golf Challenge and took a hefty check of $1.025 million. Last year, the Englishman beat Ryan Fox by one stroke and had a 5 under 67 for the final round.

The victory was emotional for Fleetwood as he cried while celebrating with his caddie since this ended his winless drought of three years. Commenting on his emotional celebration, Fleetwoods said, “That spark every now and then, that just happens when you walk through and you win.”

Returning to South Africa, Fleetwood would be the only player in the history of the DP World Tour to win the Nedbank Golf Challenge thrice. However, with a tough field in sight, it will not be easy for the Ryder Cupper. Max Homa and Justin Thomas have been enjoying their time while experiencing the wildlife of Africa. It will be great to see how well they will play against their Ryder Cup rivals in Sun City.

Moreover, players outside of the 116th mark on the ranking will lose their DPWT card and will have to suffice on a different tour. The players at risk of losing it are Daniel Van Tonder at 117th and John Axelsen on 118th. With 7,000 points on a stake at the Nedbank Challenge, a player’s destiny can change in a single swing.
