Jay Monahan has been under a lot of scrutiny lately. The extent of backlash unfolded after the PGAT Commissioner announced the potential $3 billion merger with LIV Golf. Most recently, questions were raised about his leadership after the controversial results of the Player Impact Program (PIP) were announced. But the Tour Commissioner recently made a bold confession to shut down the remarks that the golfers and other people who have been putting him under the spotlight have made.

One of the most vocal critics of Monahan was Xandеr Schauffеle, he said that he is not elated by Monahan’s leadership and wouldn’t mind a new leadership for the PGA Tour. Schauffele also touched upon the trust issues he has had with the PGA Tour and hinted at not being “our Tour” as proclaimed. But now, it seems that the Commissioner has had enough of the criticism.

The PGAT Commissioner was recently present at the annual DealBook Summit. He was being interviewed there by Andrew Ross Sorkin, of The New York Times, when the question about the ongoing criticism made an appearance. Answering the question with sheer confidence, he said, “I believe that I am the best leader for the PGA Tour. I was the best leader for the PGA tour before June 6. And I was going to be the best leader for the PGA Tour.”

Extending upon his bold remarks, Monahan said that he has been a “competitor all his life” and that he “is surrounded by a great team.” The 53-year-old further referred to the feathers he and his team have added to the PGA Tour’s hat and said, “And we’ve made a lot of great decisions together for the PGA Tour; the players have driven a lot of great decisions.”

He also said that he did not know how long he would be gone as he was recovering from a medical situation that forced him to take a leave of absence in June. Though the Commissioner has faith in his leadership and his team, from the latest scenes in the golf world, it seems that the golfers are losing their trust in his management.

Xander Schauffele and other golfers show resistance towards Monahan.

Lashley elaborated on how the Tour spends “$100 million on 20 players.” Jordan Spieth has also slammed the commissioner and asked him if he can rebuild the player’s trust.
