Nelly Korda has created one of the most remarkable records in this season’s LPGA tournaments after winning five consecutive events. However, one might question her presence at the 2024 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. Why? Well, because after a stellar run, she failed to make the cut two consecutive times. First, she could not get to the weekend at Lancaster at the US Women’s Open, after she made a septuple bogey at par 3-12th on day 1. Korda then failed again at the Meijer LPGA Classic after carding 76, and 67.

Interestingly, Korda has never played on the greens of Sahalee Country Club. The year she turned pro, the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship was indeed held there, but Korda was not one of the field members. However, according to their official field list as of June 17, 2024, Korda is listed to take part in the event. She won this championship before, back in 2021, at the Atlanta Athletic Club with a 3-stroke margin of victory. It was her maiden major glory. Her presence this year depends a lot on her mental state and the level of exhaustion she is buried under.

The question arises about her broken spirits, but Korda is determined! According to NBC Sports, before her 2024 Meijer LPGA Classic participation, she stated, “I love when golf humbles me. Not to that extent, but I do love when golf humbles me.” Korda had further added, “Sometimes you ride the highs, but it’s always in a sense nice to know where you can improve, too.” This quite literally shows the will for improvement that Korda carries in her mind.

However, there is a bigger threat that has been gnawing at Korda’s overall play. Although Korda did not get to play in the final two rounds at the 2024 Meijer LPGA Classic, her small break before the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship is almost negligible. Let us explore how exhaustion might have played a great role in Nelly Korda’s recent downfall.

Is Nelly Korda under extreme burnout?

After winning the five back-to-back LPGA events, Korda knew that she needed time to recuperate. She thus took her time off, following her win at the Chevron Championship, and sat out of the JM Eagle LA Championship 2024. She did confess that it had been a difficult decision on her part to withdraw. Korda remarked, “After the unbelievable week at the Chevron and grinding through the mental and physical challenges of four events in the past five weeks, I am definitely feeling exhausted.”

Furthermore, the 2-time major also expressed quite vividly that her body has been signaling the need for rest. Her burnout had reached such a peak that she finally revealed she needed to overcome it before the US Women’s Open. Korda confessed, “With so much still to come throughout 2024, I feel I need to listen to my body and get some rest, so I can be ready for the remainder of the season.”

Despite Nelly Korda taking time off, she could not get enough rest to outperform her competition at the US Women’s Open. With the present situation at hand and her new streak of not making the cut, do you think Nelly Korda will be able to return to her former phase of glory? Let us know in the comments below.
