After months of disruption, balance on the PGA Tour was somewhat restored last week, after Tiger Woods, assumed the role of sixth Player Director on the Tour Policy Board. This news brought a huge sigh of relief for the Tour players who were finding themselves in the dark up until a few days ago.

As a board member, Woods has joined his long-time friend, Rory McIlroy who also serves as a board member on the Tour. And though Woods has expressed gratitude towards PGA Tour commissioner, Jay Monahan, after his appointment, it looks like McIlroy is yet not happy with the PGA Tour commissioner.

Rory McIlroy has been an ardent critic of LIV Golf, and it was a big shock even for him when Monahan declared the $3 billion merger, which he finalised in private. And it was a big insult to McIlroy as well, who as the board member had the right to know about it from the beginning. And it looks like McIlroy hasn’t yet forgiven Monahan as the Scottish golfer chose to sweat it out in the gym rather than attend a meeting that included Monahan.

The Tour held a meeting last night with its commissioner Monahan in attendance, and according to the report of Associated Press national golf writer, Doug Ferguson, McIlroy entered the clubhouse as the meeting was ending and was covered in sweat.

However, besides McIlroy, there were also other golfers who did not attend the last night’s meeting. It looks like the players are not yet over their resentment against the tour commissioner whose secret moves have caused them a lot of trouble. But it is McIlroy and Woods who seem to have disagreements stated as board members.

Within days of the announcement, Woods has taken charge of his role and jumped into action. And in regards to the policies, the 15-time major winner has put his foot down in the matter of PGA Tour feature events without a cut. While other players supported this, Woods denied it for a bunch of reasons.

In the upcoming season, for the first time in a decade, the PGA Tour will have some exclusive events where there will be no cut. Out of twelve designated events, eight will not have players being cut, and the other four will feature the Tour’s regular 36-hole cut. It is somewhat similar to what LIV golf is doing. And while McIlroy supported the idea along with Patrick Cantlay and Ian Poulter, Woods opposed it as he wants things to continue the old way. He said “I still think that there needs to be a penalty for not playing well, and every event shouldn’t be always guaranteed 72 holes. I think that there should be a cut there.

Apart from this, it looks like McIlroy is yet not ready to see eye to eye with his commissioner as of yet despite his acceptance of the billion dollar merger. What do you think of McIlroy’s move? Let us know in the comments below.
