Nelly Korda's pub visit after St. Andrews—Is this the best way to handle a tough loss?

Nelly Korda has really been hanging by a thread! It wasn’t so at the beginning of 2024 when she clinched five consecutive wins and etched her name in history, but things have been dwindling after that. She missed cuts in the Women’s US Open and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship but came back stronger at the Amundi Evian Championship with a T26 finish. Sadly, she also was not able to defend her gold successfully in Paris, but she was long overdue for redemption at St. Andrews.

She tried her best, even changed the putter, and pulled a classic Scottie Scheffler. As a result of her hard work, and equipment change, at the 2024 AIG Women’s Open, she tied for the second spot with Lilia Vu and Yin Ruoning with a score of 5 under, while Lydia Ko took home the trophy by scoring 7 under par, marking her third major win, and yet another feather to her already glorious hat.

While one would think that the world apex golfer must be gutted after such a loss, it was quite the opposite. In a recent post by Flushing It Golf, fans could see a happy Korda smiling for the picture at a pub while wearing a hoodie that said, “It costs zero dollars to be a nice person.” Such a great and true message!

Although she didn’t take home the top prize, Nelly Korda’s tied-second finish helped her secure the 2024 Rolex ANNIKA Major Award. This prestigious award recognizes the player with the best overall performance across all five major championships during the LPGA Tour season. The fans on the internet were glad to see that the golfer was doing okay even after the close call at the season’s final major.

Fans comment on Nelly Korda’s resilience

While golf fans are known to be ruthless when it comes to poor performances by top athletes, it was quite the opposite for Nelly Korda. “It’s a game after all. It seems like the girls are mostly very good friends and are supportive of each other,”  said one fan, reminding us that there are always highs and lows in a journey called life, and with good friends, it becomes somewhat bearable. Korda is one of the most cheerful personalities on and off the course. She does not shy away from expressing her true self, and is great friends with her fellow golfers, especially Allison Lee and Megan Khang. She has been close to them for the past couple of years and loved hanging out with them at a coffee shop or a Korean restaurant.

While Korda was unsatisfied with her performance, she did acknowledge that golf is a game of mistakes. “I’m going to mess up, and unfortunately, I messed up over the weekend twice in two penalizing ways coming down the stretch,”  she said, according to Sky Sports. And a heap of fans were there to support her as always. “Impressive on and off the course,”  said one fan, adding to the high spirits. “She looks great,”  said another. Nelly Korda, this year, became the first golfer to attend the Met Gala, and boy did she look gorgeous in an Oscar de la Renta gown with 3D red poppies stitched onto winding green stems. So yeah, she does look great at all times!
