Golf world gossip and Paige Spiranac have become inseparable, to the extent that an event feels incomplete until Spiranac discusses it in her unique style with her audience. Besides her social media influence and golfing skills, Spiranac is also recognized in the sports industry for her insights. In a recent series of events, Spiranac appears surprised. 

Paige Spiranac and Xander Schauffele have previously made headlines due to their shared college background. Spiranac has mentioned Schauffele a few times in her past podcasts as well. Now, as Xander Schauffele faces another challenge in his PGA Tour golfing journey, Spiranac has once again expressed her genuine concern.

Paige Spiranac’s insight on Team USA and Xander Schauffele

In the recent episode of the podcast “Playing A Round With Paige,” Paige Spiranac discussed this year’s gameplay at the 2023 Ryder Cup. Talking about the player choices and individual gameplay, Spiranac expressed who she wished had made it to the team this year. 

During the discussion about Ricky Fowler conceding against Tommy Fleetwood, Spiranac mentioned Patrick Cantlay, whom she said she liked a lot after the match because of everything that had happened on the greens before his game, and yet he played well. 

She also discussed Team USA’s refusal to allow Netflix into their locker room, explaining that this was due to some players being paid more than others and that facing the Netflix team in such a scenario would have been embarrassing. Furthermore, talking about the money-related issue, the golf mommy brought in Xander Schauffele and said, “It’s surprising coming from Xander because he did play in the Olympics when a lot of golfers didn’t want to play in the Olympics. And he won.” 

Schauffele and Spiranac attended San Diego State University (SDSU) and were in the same class. As a result, Spiranac seems to know Schauffele well on a personal level. She continued, “…you would think that he would carry that pride into everything that he does when it comes to representing his country… And so it is really hard to speculate and it seems like it’s all about money. But…there has to be more that goes into it that they would act this way.”

She concluded by adding, “Because I went to school with Xander. Like I know Xander. It seems out of character for him to do something like that.” To make sense of the issue fully, here’s a brief overview of what occurred during last Saturday.

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele made headlines during Saturday’s matches on the greens. It was reported by a media outlet that Cantlay wanted money to play in the Ryder Cup and he wasn’t wearing a hat in protest. 

Schauffele was said to be siding with Cantlay, causing a schism in the team before Cantlay’s game. Cantlay later, however, scored a birdie on the 18th hole and the American pair won, and the team cheered for him in camaraderie.
