Trump's golf joke after an assassination attempt—Is humor his best defense mechanism?

On and off the greens, things are taking a dramatic turn! As the US presidential elections heat up, politics is reaching a boiling point. Amidst this tense atmosphere, a shocking revelation has emerged about former President Donald Trump. One that blends golf and threat in a heartstopping tale. Just weeks after surviving an assassination attempt on July 13 during an open-air campaign rally in Pennsylvania, Trump’s life was again under threat. But this time on the golf course.

It was JD Vance, the American politician and Republican Party member, who revealed the astonishing details of the threat. He shared the details of a phone call he received from Trump, just minutes after the close call. The news spread and fans and critics weighed in on the astonishing events. According to Vance, Trump was calm and collected, despite the danger that had just unfolded. Vance’s account, which combines golf, danger, and Donald Trump’s unwavering resolve, was shared by NUCLR Golf on their X handle.

“I was sitting at home in Cincinnati with my seven-year-old, and I got a phone call and it says, Donald J. Trump, so I answered it, and he says, ‘JD, you’re not going to believe this, but they tried to do it again,'” He recounted Trump’s words. “‘I said, ‘No, they didn’t; you’re Joshing me; what’s going on here, sir?’ And he says, ‘No, I was playing golf, and the Secret Service found somebody who was trying to shoot me,'” Vance continued, quoting his nonchalant tone.

But in the dire situation, what happened next left him stunned, as he was taken aback by Trump’s nonchalant attitude. The former US President’s ability to find humor amidst danger left Vance speechless. When he tried to ask if he was safe or not hurt, Trump hilariously said, “Yeah, I’m doing fine. I’m a little mad because I was about to make a birdie putt on the sixth hole, and they wouldn’t let me finish.”

As per reports by BBC, the suspected assassin was near the golf course for 12 hours. Donald Trump’s unflappable response left many in awe, which showcases his trademark resilience. The attempted assassination on the golf course has ignited a firestorm of reactions, from shock to admiration.

One fan proudly proclaimed, Trump one of us. Wants that birdie,” capturing the connection between Trump’s focus on his birdie putt and the average golfer’s determination to finish a hole, no matter what. It’s a relatable moment for many amateur and even professional golfers, as anyone who’s ever had a birdie chance knows the frustration of being interrupted. Trump’s reaction here evokes memories of other golfers prioritizing the game above all else. For example, in 2019, Tiger Woods insisted on finishing his round at the Masters amid torrential rain and distractions. Showcasing the same “hunger” to seize a birdie opportunity.

Another fan said, “President Trump is an absolute savage… a man’s man… also, golf is life, which emphasizes the unwavering dedication Trump has to both golf and his personal brand of toughness. His passion for the game is well-known. With a reported handicap index of 2.5, he’s consistently proven himself on the course. Golf legend John Daly has also praised the 67-year-old’s game, remarking, “He hits it good. He is a decent player.” Daly’s words echo the sentiment of the fan’s comment, further underscoring Trump’s devotion to mastering the game. According to Daly, the 77-year-old always meticulously writes down his scores and pushes himself to finish every hole. This reflects his competitive nature and commitment to the sport, regardless of external pressures.

A user commented, “Married to the game🏌️,” pointing out Trump’s deep love for golf. The former POTUS owns a vast portfolio of golf courses worldwide, but it’s not just business for him—it’s personal. Back in 2016, Tiger Woods teed off with Trump at Trump International Golf Club, and after the game, Woods praised his swing, saying, “For a person who is 70 years old, he hits it hard.” Woods’ comments only reinforce the fan’s recognition that he is more than just a casual golfer. But someone who has made golf an integral part of his life.

On the flip side, one fan skeptically remarked, “I don’t want the president playing golf. Hello,” The comment about presidents playing golf recalls the lighthearted rivalry between Donald Trump and Joe Biden. The X users touched on the long-running golf feud that surfaced during the 2024 presidential debates. During one of their exchanges, he mocked Biden’s physical stamina, specifically his golfing ability, even challenging Biden to a match. However, Biden declined to accept Trump’s challenge.

Finally, another concerned fan remarked, “Sorry, no more golfing for Donald. Unless he hires his own additional security detail. He is a high-risk target individual. It’s a burden on the SS. He can always go to the Putt-Putt mini golf place.” Highlighting the security concerns surrounding Trump, especially after repeated assassination attempts. The user emphasized that Trump’s insistence on pushing boundaries, whether on the campaign trail or the golf course, can burden his security team. Yet, this same fearlessness is a quality his supporters admire, as he often portrays himself as unafraid of danger.
