A girlfriend that supports you and roasts you? That’s a dream? Maybe not for many, but at least that’s the dream for Sahith Theegala! His girlfriend, Julianna “Juju” Chan, is known for her wit on the internet. Often sharing glimpses of her life with the golfer, fans love her. One time she literally cracked all of us up was when she called out the pro for getting clean-shaven by comparing him to his younger self. Beard does add 10 pounds, it seems! As fun as their relationship is, the story of how they got together is even more fun.

In a recent interview on the popular podcast “Dan on Golf,” Juju opened up about how she met Sahith, sharing some fascinating insights into their relationship. We know they met at Pepperdine University, where they began as friends. They had a lot in common, including their passion for sports—Juju was a standout swimmer, breaking the university record for the 200-meter swim and dive, while Sahith made waves in college golf. “We had like all of the same classes starting freshman year, so we were friends, and then we became like better friends because we got paired up in a class sophomore year, just the two of us as like journal buddies,” she said.

Their friendship blossomed into something more when Sahith invited Juju to one of his tournaments, but things got a little awkward when he suddenly ghosted her. Well, Sahith’s awkwardness around women is a well-known fact among his friends and family, and LPGA’s Allisen Corpuz knows this all too well. The two met by chance at a junior golf tournament in San Diego when they were just 6 years old. Sahith’s dad, Murli, recalls the moment they met Allisen and her father, Marcos, in the parking lot, and how Sahith struggled to make small talk with the young girl. Despite his awkwardness, Sahith managed to connect with Allisen on the golf course, and they both ended up winning their respective divisions at the tournament.

But his awkwardness didn’t change in college as well, which left Juju wondering if Theegala was interested. “He would invite me to tournaments, um, and text me and be like, ‘Hey, come to this one.’ I’m like, ‘I’m down, I’m there.’ And then he would ghost me for like multiple… it happened like at least twice,” she revealed.

However, two and a half years ago, Sahith asked Juju to attend the Fortnite Championship, and this time, things were different. Over dinner, Sahith confessed he’d wanted to ask her out in college, and Juju playfully hinted that she was interested. The next day, she asked him for a date. Their first date was a casual sushi outing in San Francisco, where Juju even paid the bill—a move she proudly “flex.” “So he stayed in, uh, Northern California for a couple of days longer. We went to a cute sushi spot in San Francisco, and he went to the bathroom. I paid for the bill,” she said.

After that, they started talking every day for hours, and their relationship has been going strong ever since. Juju’s now a constant presence at Sahith’s PGA Tour events, cheering him on from the sidelines. Professionally, Juju works as an Enterprise Customer Success Manager and has a background in sports administration, making her a great match for Sahith’s golf career, and she is having fun with that!

Julianna Chan complains about flying coach even after her boyfriend’s biggest payday

Last year in September, when Sahith Theegala won the FedEx Cup, Juju playfully complained about not flying home privately. She posted a tongue-in-cheek TikTok video on board a commercial flight, showcasing the cramped quarters of their economy seats. “When my bf wins $7.5m in FedEx Cup and we don’t fly private home,” she captioned the video, poking fun at their travel arrangements.

Flying coach after a $7.5M win—Is Sahith Theegala the most down-to-earth golfer out there?

Have an interesting take?

Theegala had made headlines earlier in the year for calling a two-shot penalty on himself during a tournament in Atlanta, ultimately costing him $2.5 million in prize money. Despite the setback, Theegala explained that he simply trusted his instincts and gut feeling that he had disturbed the sand in the fairway bunker. “At the end of the day, I’ve played so much golf,” he said. “You kind of just trust your intuition and gut, and right away I thought I moved some sand there.”

Do you think Sahith Theegala’s honesty and integrity will pay off this year and get him a green jacket? Let us know in the comments section below.
