Even though Rory McIlroy is no longer part of the PGA Tour policy board, he continues to give it some serious thought. In recent times, he has been vocal about his vision of a “world tour” that would feature the best performers and courses across the world. But now it turns out, with the golf world changing so much, more players are thinking like Northern Irishmen.
The 34-year-old believes that such a tour would benefit the game and the players by tapping into new markets and opportunities. McIlroy also thinks that the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour, and Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) should work together to create this ‘dream scenario. But he is not alone in his views. After McIlroy’s change of heart, he has found an unlikely ally in a LIV golfer. None other than Bubba Watson.

Bubba Watson recently sat down on The NCG Golf Podcast and spoke his mind. Watson said that LIV Golf is not the enemy of golf but rather a catalyst for change. Watson supports McIlroy’s world tour idea. Hе strеssеd thе nееd for divеrsity whеrе playеrs frееly participatе in еvеnts worldwidе without facing criticism basеd on thе Tour thеy choosе.
The LIV Golfer, said, “We want these all to be if I went and played in Europe, nobody would say anything bad about me or where I went and played”. There was a time when the PGAT was the biggest Tour in the world and offered the biggest payout, but it was not always like that.
To support the global Tour idea Watson cited a historical example of when players traveled the different-different parts of the world to get more exposure. He said, “Jack Nicklaus and all the big names from America used to go to Japan because Japan paid more money.” As per the golfer, it can happen again as the players could do it to earn more money.
But can this vision turn into reality? Well, it depends on how things pan out in the future. The $3 billion merger will surely help turn things around. As per Watson, LIV Golf being the “bigger dog” might just push things for the better.

The 45-year-old slightly hinted that if the merger meetings go well, then a bigger entity will form in terms of everything, including big payouts. Bubba Watson believes that the changes happening in golf, especially with the inception of LIV Golf, will bring positive outcomes over time.
People are starting to realize that in the past, other golf tours were considered more significant before the PGA Tour became the dominant one. Now, LIV Golf is the new ‘bigger dog on campus’, but that does not mean it wants to eliminate other tours.
