While it seemed like the thrilling competition would never come to an end, LIV Golf Tulsa’s enthralling finale saw Dustin Johnson claim his maiden win of the season. Though he outclassed Cameron Smith and Branden Grace in the playoff to take home the $4 million prize money, Smith later shared his honest thoughts after almost stealing the triumph from DJ.

The Tulsa event over the weekend marked the last stop for the LIV golfers before heading to New York for the PGA Championship. Though Johnson remained the last man standing in the playoffs, thanks to a mesmerizing putt from the fringe, his fellow Australian opponent also had a similar chance but failed to emulate him.

Smith, Johnson, and Grace’s 17 under par led the three men to a playoff. However, the conclusion was drawn by DJ on the first hole of the playoff, as he birdied the par-4 18th hole of the Cedar Ridge Country Club. The two-time Major winner secured a -1 after putting from the fringe. On the other hand, Cam Smith had the opportunity to tie the playoff with Johnson after landing on the greens.

Unfortunately, as the Aussie golfer made his attempt for the birdie, he missed the hole. Later in the press conference, Smith reminisced about his terrible missed opportunity. “Just kind of went right on me and didn’t really come back”, said the 29-year-old post his round, staying positive despite his loss. “I thought it was pretty good, and yeah, just kind of didn’t come back… can’t really be angry at the greens”.
