As the top-notch golfers took on the greens at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, Jessica Korda wasn’t one of them. Despite qualifying for the tournament, the 30-year-old golfer’s name wasn’t on the playing field list. In fact, the Cognizant Founders Cup was the star’s last appearance on the course. But after the second round, she abruptly withdrew from the competition. The professional’s best finish came at the DIO Implant LA Open.

But since then she hasn’t been able to deliver like she used to before. While the news of the star missing out on the second golf major was relatively fresh, another disheartening information has been made public. According to the Golf Week writer, Beth Ann Nichols, Jessica Korda has decided to withdraw from the 2023 US Women’s Open.

It means that the golfer will not take on the field at Pebble Beach Golf Links despite the exemption criteria granted to her. However, she is not the only player to have pulled out of the competition. Two other golfers who have also taken a similar step include Mone Inami and Hee Jeong Lim. Both of whom have also displayed exceptional skills over the years.

The iconic course of Pebble Beach would have been an exciting venue for the talented Korda. Also, she would have added to the already competitive playing field for the major that starts from July 6-9. However, it appears that the withdrawal wasn’t a choice for the star as she has been suffering from a severe back injury for a while now.

The probable reason behind Jessica Korda’s withdrawal

Though nothing as such has been given out by the golfer about the reason for her pull out from the 2023 US Women’s Open, her health conditions appear to be the primary cause of the same. The back injury hasn’t fully recovered for Korda. As informed by her through the social media platform, there isn’t much improvement and the past year has been really difficult for the golfer.

This has made it harder for the star to play golf and has prompted her to withdraw from competitions. What was more concerning regarding this issue was the uncertainty surrounding Korda’s return to the greens. She said, “At this point, we don’t have a firm timeline for my return”.

The recent news of her withdrawal just confirms how serious the problem might be, given the prestige of the tournament. Moreover, it is sure to be a disappointing phase for Jessica Korda as well. But, in times like these, prioritizing health is important for a better comeback as a professional. Korda seemed to agree to the same when she said, “At the advice of my medical team, I have made the decision to stop playing until I can get my back fully healthy.
