Team USA for the Ryder Cup in 2023 is shaping up nicely. Captain Zach Johnson has already appointed his vice captains, and they are now slowly narrowing down the list of players who will be representing the United States in a battle of US vs. European players at the prestigious event in Italy.

Many LIV Golfers are vying for a position on the team as well to prove their patriotism, but sadly, not all can make it. However, Bryson DeChambeau used his technical skills to deliver a splendid score this week that grabbed the headlines. After all, it is not easy to beat Tiger Woods’ record. But what does this mean for The Scientist’s Ryder Cup aspirations?

Tiger Woods shot his lowest-ever score of 59 in early 1997. And even though it didn’t come during a PGA Tour event, he was still in his rookie years, which made his feat unbelievable at the time. However, now Bryson DeChambeau has surpassed the score of the golf GOAT with his incredulous performance at LIV Golf Greenbrier.

The 29-year-old has been striking splendidly and making headlines in West Virginia. Moreover, in the last round of his recent win, he scored his career lowest, a 58, which is remarkable since the 82-time PGA Tour winner also hasn’t accomplished that feat. This inadvertently makes DeChambeau one of the most promising players on any golf circuit and hence raises many questions about his being part of the International event.

With the Ryder Cup team’s contention still in question, the Scientist has just raised the bar for the selection process. However, his contention hasn’t been considered in the list that includes one of his LIV colleagues, Brooks Koepka. But things might still change for the LIV golfer now that he has proven his mettle against some of the epic players, including Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, and other spectacular LIV Golf defectors, who have created for themselves a great Ryder Cup legacy.

Who are the shortlisted players for Team USA in the Ryder Cup 2023?

Fred Couples was appointed vice captain alongside Steve Stricker, Davis Love III, Stewart Cink, and Jim Furyk for this year’s International event in Rome. The 63-year-old golfer, fondly called Boom Boom on the golf circuits, revealed three names a couple of weeks ago during the SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio Show who are top contenders for Team USA.

While, of course, the official list is not yet declared, Couples stated that Jordan Spieth, Max Homa, and Cameron Young “will be in Italy”. The three are already quite high on the points list, and if they don’t qualify, it is likely that they will be picked by Captain Johnson.

Wyndham Clarke and Scottie Scheffler have already cemented their place in the Ryder Cup through their qualification points. The captain of Team US, along with the VCs, also shortlisted Justin Thomas, Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau, Ricky Fowler, and Sam Burns as possible contenders to make the team this year.

Brooks Koepka’s contention has been in question lately due to his faltering gameplay this season; however, if he does qualify through points, he will play in Rome. The final team for the Ryder Cup 2023 will be announced soon, and fans are yet to find out if Bryson DeChambeau’s spectacular performance will earn him a spot for the prestigious event.
