Rory McIlroy was spotted competing at the $18 Million TOUR Championship. He played some good golf on the four days and rested well in the 4th position with a final score of 14 under par for the event.

The four-time major champion, during a press conference, opened up about various issues like his battling with his injuries, his recovery plans, and also his excitement for the Ryder Cup. He also went ahead and shared his perspective on the FedEx Cup format.

Rory McIlroy reflects on his recent tournament performance while dealing with an injury. He said “Hung in there the first couple days when I really wasn’t feeling great.” This emphasizes his determination to hang in there and notes an improvement in his condition over the course of the tournament.

McIlroy outlines his recovery strategy, mentioning his intention to focus on rehab exercises to stabilize his right side. He elaborates on how the injury initially affected his upper right back and has since moved down to his lower back, hip, and glutes.

He expresses optimism, saying, “It’s sort of working its way down to — hopefully by the end of the week it sort of works its way out. ” Rory was also asked about Viktor Hovland, who according to him is a really hardworking guy and possesses a really unique golf swing.

He praised Hovland’s exceptional driving skills, stating he is one of the “best drivers of the golf ball in the world” and the improvements in his short game, which have contributed to his recent successes. He was also asked about the upcoming Ryder Cup!

Anticipation for the Ryder Cup

The conversation gradually shifted to Ryder Cup and Rory could not keep his excitement at bay. He referred to the disappointment of the previous Ryder Cup and excitement towards the upcoming one. He mentions that many players, including himself, are making their way to Europe early to have team chemistry.

He was also asked what he feels about the American players taking time off from the game to relax before the event and he gave a witty response saying it is different for everyone. He said, “I’m glad that I’m playing a couple more times going in, just to feel like my game is as sharp as it possibly can be, yeah.”

To wards the end he also took some time to ponder over the Fed Ex cup format. He draws parallels with other sports like basketball, where an outstanding regular season performance doesn’t necessarily guarantee playoff success.
