Everyone was shocked when Blades Brown announced that he was turning pro at just 17 years old, but no one was as surprised as Tony Finau, who knows a thing or two about making the leap to professional golf at a young age. Finau, who also turned pro at 17, was asked about Brown and had nothing but praise for the young golfer, saying “I didn’t have the talent or skills that this kid has, from what I’ve seen.” Finau admitted that the early years were tough, but believes that Brown’s experience playing on the PGA Tour at such a young age will be “invaluable” to his future success, and he’s excited to see what’s in store for the talented teenager.

In the latest YouTube episode of Golf’s Subpar, Brown dived deep into his big break and shared his thoughts on making his PGA Tour debut at the American Express. After making Tony Finau speechless with his impressive performance, Brown opens up about his experience, saying “I was just praying to get in the clubhouse after that, I mean 80 on the PGA Tour is awesome!” He recalls being three over through four holes, but then rallying back with three consecutive birdies to get back on track. As he reflects on his debut, Brown notes, “I think I was like eight under through nine holes at one point, um, or through the nine holes that I made six consecutive birdies and, dude, it could have been nine in a row.”

Brown’s excitement is palpable as he recounts his remarkable round, which included six consecutive birdies at one point. He jokes about how his playing partners thought it was hilarious that he was getting pumped up after hitting shots to 15-20 feet, while they were hitting it to eight feet and remaining calm. As he looks back on the experience, Brown says, “Dude, I had so much fun, that was one of the most fun rounds of golf I’ve ever had, um, and then you know I kind of finished with a bogey but, you know, I was just I was just praying to get in the clubhouse after that.” Despite finishing with a bogey, Brown is grateful for the opportunity, noting, “800 on the PGA Tour is awesome, so yeah, 10 tweets, I think you shot the lowest score by someone under the age…”
