This season’s Buick LPGA Shanghai, hosted at the Qizhong Garden Golf Club course, had the LPGA fans and stars on their toes as Angel Yin clinched her first LPGA victory after defeating top-ranked Lilia Vu on the first playoff hole. With this victory, Yin earned a prize money of $315,000 from the purse of $2,100,000.

Winning against the world’s current number 1 woman golfer must be a surreal feeling. Talking about it in the post-match press conference, Yin made an honest confession about the game. Here is what she had to say.

At the press conference held after Angel Yin claimed her first LPGA Tour title at the Shanghai tournament, the player answered questions related to her gameplay, her journey so far, and all the challenges she faced. When asked about what it means for Yin to be able to call herself an LPGA Tour winner after the shoulder injury she has overcome, the player revealed that it means something special to her.

The 25-year-old continued talking about what was going through her head while she played on the Qizhong Garden Golf Club course and said, “…throughout the round, I was thinking to myself, it’s not easy to win…. Just very grateful.”

Concluding by talking about her gameplay, the golfer added, “Honestly, 18, that bunker where I was in, anything could have happened, but I was very fortunate to have a very good lie and was able to hit a good shot, and everything played out the way it played out.”

Angel Yin’s matchplay at Shanghai 

Angel Yin won the LPGA Shanghai tournament and claimed her maiden LPGA tour win in a dramatic playoff against top-ranked player Lilia Vu. The tournament reached an intense climax as both Yin and Vu finished with an impressive 14-under 274, forcing a playoff to determine the champion.

Yin shared the overnight lead with Maja Stark at 12 under, and on the final day, she managed to shoot a composed 70, featuring three birdies and a lone bogey on the 6th hole.

In the middle of Lilia Vu’s game, it did seem like she was going to secure the tile after her final round of 68, featuring six birdies and two bogeys. But Yin soon took over when she birdied the par-5 17th hole and then made a crucial par on the final hole.

The highlight of the playoff was the challenging par-4 18th hole, where Yin made a crucial birdie after Vu narrowly missed her 20-foot birdie putt. This was the moment that marked Yin’s breakthrough win.
