The 2025 season is to be filled with changes, it seems. Even before the year could kick in, Jordan Spieth’s fourteen-year-long looper Michael Greller was announced to be caddying for Max Homa for the 2025 Sentry. But why? Jordan Spieth underwent surgery on his left hand, and he is still recovering. So, we guess his caddie of 14 years needed some change. Spieth last played at the St. Jude Championship. Well, that was not all for the changes.

After parting ways with Lee Westwood in 2018, Billy Foster started caddying for Matt Fitzpatrick. Foster helped Fitzpatrick clinch his first major title at the 2022 US Open. But as it turns out, they might be seen less together on the greens for this season after six seasons of working together. Billy Foster recently took to his official Instagram account and announced that he will take a much-deserved break.

He shared pictures of him and Matt Fitzpatrick on several courses, and in the caption wrote, Well 2025 will be a little bit different but looking forward to a positive start to the season here in Maui 🌈 🐳 ☀️ ⛳️. After 42 seasons it’s time to try a job share with Fitz & travel a little bit less. I will still be doing about 15 tournaments but will try to look at other opportunities with re-speaking, the book, Sky TV (might need the 🔴 button 🤪, helping aspiring young golfers with course management, etc (Open to offers) 🤡🤣. Who knows might be back full-time at some point but now seems the right time to give the body a break & catch up on things I miss out on… might even start playing golf again 🤷🏻‍♂️😱⛳️. Happy New Year to you all …. 🍀 🙏🍻”.

Foster will be on Fitz’s bag at the Kapalua Plantation Course. How the duo performs, remains to be seen. Nonetheless, the two have shared some great moments.

Billy Foster’s huge influence on Matt Fitzpatrick’s game

Fitzpatrick and Foster share a close working relationship, often found deep in conversation during rounds. At the 2019 Scandinavian Invitational, Fitzpatrick asked his caddie for advice on a shot that had ended up in a bush. In his usual no-nonsense fashion, Foster joked that they should “flip a coin” to decide what to do, before adding, “Everyone watching at home will say you’re cheating. Get on with it!” A humorous moment also occurred at the 2022 Masters, on the par-5 13th hole, when Fitzpatrick questioned the yardage his caddie had given him.

What’s your perspective on:

Will Spieth's recovery and Greller's new role shake up the golf world in 2025?

Have an interesting take?

Stepping away from the ball, Fitzpatrick asked for clarification, to which Foster replied, “We’ve both thought about it and decided it’s the right play, so get on with it.” Fitzpatrick, not missing a beat, quipped, “Oh sorry, are you in a rush?” Foster calmly responded, “No, there’s no rush.” He has also taught Fitzpatrick a lot about patience. Take the 2022 PGA Championship for example. The conditions were tough, and yet Fitzpatrick managed to come out with a 2-under-par round. “I think that’s the one thing that I’ve learned more and more certainly over the last few years, particularly with Billy on the bag as well, is just to stay patient and the birdies will come, basically,” explained Fitzpatrick.

Hopefully, there will be more wins under the name of the Englishman with Billy Foster not only carrying his bag but also guiding him. What are your thoughts on the break? Let us know in the comments section below!
