It’s not every day we hear of a lawsuit in the world of golf. But Patrick Reed is making waves in the golf world with his legal battles more than his performances. The 2018 Masters champion had left the PGA Tour to join the LIV Golf League. But that has not quite settled well with a lot of media critics.

It was in this change that the roots of his $750 million legal battle lay. Patrick Reed was heavily criticized for his decision to join the Saudi league in March 2022. He then sued various individuals including golf news experts and veterans who objected to his decision to join the LIV Golf League. The legal war goes on and so does the debate about it!

The initial legal efforts of the golfer faced setbacks as a federal judge dismissed his requests in November 2022 and again in September 2023.

Despite the setbacks, Patrick Reed remains determined in the courts just as he does on the course. He recently filed a “motion to recuse” against the federal judge who has rejected 55 of his lawsuits thus far.

A motion to recuse is based on the perception that a bias or prejudice may dilute the good faith concern of the judge. The golfer’s law firm believes that the judge who ruled that Reed failed to bring actionable defamation claim, has showed a biased conduct and should be disqualified from the case.

The motion argues that the case should be reconsidered by another judge for an unbiased and fair outcome. Patrick Reed has made it clear that he is fighting for the harm caused to his reputation and the financial loss that followed due to the defamatory statements made by the media over his transition to the Saudi backed league.
